Hamtaro is out and about and notices these flying fish windsocks that have been going up around town. He heads to the clubhouse, where he finds that fish are all the rage there too. The clubhouse is decorated with lots of pictures of fish and the ham-hams are all busy trying to design their own flying fish windsocks. The ham-hams encourage Hamtaro to join in, but he notes that he doesn't exactly get a lot of wind in Laura's room. Hamtaro heads home, where Laura and her family are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Laura's Grandma (from previous episodes) and Grandpa (who we have never seen before.) Laura tells Hamtaro that he's going to love Grandpa, who's an inventor. Grandpa is known for some rather crazy inventions. Laura's Mom and Dad think back to Laura's last birthday, where Laura's Grandfather brought a mechanized cake-cutting device. It seemed to be working nicely at first, but then it went haywire, slicing Laura's cake to ruins. Laura was very upset, but Grandpa did try to make up, by going out and buying a new cake. Laura comments that Grandpa's always bringing a new invention is kind of exciting, but in a scary kind of way. Finally, Laura's Grandpa arrives. His goofy side comes out right away, he uses a mechanized bird to ring the doorbell. Nobody is really impressed by this and we see sweatdrops to express this. Worse, Laura's Grandpa has a gag carrying bag, which gives Laura's Dad quite a scare when he opens it and out pops a scary face. Grandpa explains that it's for security, in case anyone were to try to steal it. Laura introduces Grandpa to Hamtaro. Grandpa recognizes him from Laura's descriptions, but calls him "Hambobo." Hamtaro thinks that Grandpa resembles Elder Ham. Later that evening, Laura's Grandfather goes out and is unexpectedly gone for hours. He manages to arrive home just in time for Laura to say good night for him. Before she can really say anything to him, however, he slips away into the house's guest room, saying he'll use it as a temporary workshop. Laura seems disappointed, but goes to bed. The next morning, Laura's Grandpa wakes her up bright and early. He wants her and "Hamblasto" to come downstairs and see something. Laura obligingly brings down Hamtaro and finds that Grandpa has some sort of contraption in the middle of the living room. Laura's Grandpa explains, it's a mechanized hamster-treadmill. Laura is very worried about this, fearing that Hamtaro could get hurt. Grandpa, however, assures her that it's safe. Laura goes ahead and places Hamtaro into it. Grandpa starts up the machine. At first, everything goes well, just like with the cake-cutter. Hamtaro seems to really enjoy running in this mechanized whiz-wheel. Then, the machine inexplicably goes haywire, just like the cake-cutter. It speeds up to an unsafe speed and Hamtaro soon goes flying out of it. Laura races over to pick up the stunned Hamtaro, pleading for him to speak to her. Hamtaro seems mostly to be just stunned, but otherwise okay except for a bump. Nevertheless, Laura is extremely upset. She yells at Grandpa, noting that she told him the contraption wasn't dangerous. She stomps off to her room, very angry. There, she bandages Hamtaro. Laura's Mom comes up, encouraging her to forgive her Grandpa. Laura wants nothing to do with it, saying that she just wants Grandpa to go home. Her mother continues to plead with her, but she heads for the door, saying that she needs some air. As Laura heads off on her walk, Grandpa comes into Laura's room. Hamtaro's in the process of trying to escape and as Grandpa comes in, he quickly hurries back to his cage. Grandpa apologizes to Hamtaro and even calls him by his correct name. Hamtaro accepts the apology. With Grandpa out of the way now, Hamtaro heads to the clubhouse. There, Howdy pokes fun at his injury. Howdy couldn't resist the joke, but everyone finds it in bad taste. In any case, Hamtaro wants to do something to patch things up between Grandpa and Laura. Boss doesn't think this is such a great idea at first and in fact seems to be sitting aside from the rest of the ham-hams. Yet, when Bijou expresses favor for it, he's all for it. Back at Laura's house, Grandpa decides to leave as well. Laura's Mom wants him to say, saying that Laura should be home soon. Grandpa, however, uses Laura's same line that he needs some air. As Grandpa is heading out, Laura is with Kana and heading in the direction of her home. Kana is trying to get Laura to patch things up with Grandpa, saying that her own Grandpa isn't ever able to visit her due to his health. She manages to get a weak affirmation from Laura, but as soon as Laura tries to go inside her home, she decides that she just can't. As she's doing this, the ham-hams are cooking up their own plan. They've split into teams to track Laura and Grandpa and get them together. They already know where Grandpa is, so they have Oxnard tail after him. The other ham-hams search for Laura and Boss finally finds him. In the process, Hamtaro is spotted by Grandpa and Boss is spotted by Laura. But neither get a good enough look for them to confirm their suspicion - that they just saw a hamster. Meanwhile, the ham-hams are in a panic, as they think Laura's Grandpa is heading for the train station. As it turns out, Laura's Grandpa has gone to visit Cappy's owner, Kip and Sue. It's there, yesterday, that he got the parts for the mechanized treadmill and spent hours working, doing such thing as using's Cappy's own whiz wheel as a model. Laura shows up and is invited in. Kip and Sue have nothing but praise for Laura's Grandfather and Laura can't help but forgive him. The two make up and start making plans. Perhaps next time Laura comes to visit Grandma and Grandpa, she and Grandpa can work on a project together. Grandpa promises that Laura will be safety inspector. That evening, Laura reflects on the day, saying that it started bad, but that things ended up okay.moreless
