Laura, Kana and their families and hamsters are all together in the car, on the way to the country. Their visiting the Flower Ranch, where Kana's cousin Dylan lives. Hamtaro, in the back of the car, notes that this time he didn't have to sneak along to come on the ride. Oxnard seems extra-excited about going to the ranch. So Hamtaro tries to find out what it is that Oxnard isn't telling him, but Oxnard says that wild horses couldn't drag it out of him. Also, while in the car, Kana's Dad says that he has something special in store for Laura's Dad. When they finally arrive at the ranch, the girls discuss what to do with the hamsters. Kana explains that there's a special fenced in area where they can play. She doesn't think there's any chance they would try to escape. Laura reluctantly agrees. The girls meet up with Dylan and Laura learns about Dylan's hamster, Pepper. Kana explains that she's called "Pepper" because of her feistiness. Apparently, she nipped Dylan's finger once and it was a real struggle to get her off of him. Fortunately, that hasn't happened again. In the fenced-in area, Oxnard is explaining to Hamtaro about Pepper. Hamtaro realizes that Pepper is the big secret Oxnard has been keeping. He sees a cow and thinks that the cow and Pepper. He doesn't understand - the cow and Oxnard are so "udderly" different. Then, Pepper shows up and starts calling for Oxnard. Hamtaro thinks Oxnard must be really popular, until he realizes that it's the hamster that's Pepper and not the cow. Hamtaro ends up tumbling down a hill and Pepper makes a crack about "city slickers." Meanwhile, Oxnard is gushing over Pepper and Hamtaro starts thinking that Oxnard is acting kind of weird. Oxnard finally admits to Hamtaro that he likes Pepper. As in, like, a girlfriend. However, Pepper doesn't know this and Oxnard doesn't know how to tell her. Hamtaro suggests the straight approach, saying that if you have something to say, you have to shout it out loud. Oxnard, however, isn't too comfortable with this idea. Hamtaro tries again, suggesting that Oxnard make up some poetry on the spot. Yet when Oxnard tries this, he just ends up sputtering. While Hamtaro and Oxnard are involved with affairs of the heart, Laura is trying to enjoy the wonders of the ranch. She wants to try horseback riding, but she's kind of afraid, as she's never been on a horse before. When she gets on a horse, it neighs with irritation. Dylan tells Laura that the horse senses her fear. Laura tries to relax and is finally able to enjoy riding. Back with Oxnard and Hamtaro, they're whispering, trying to figure out a new strategy for Oxnard. This irritates Pepper, who thinks that the whispering is them making fun of her. They both deny this, but she's still suspicious because they won't tell her what they're whispering about. Hamtaro then sees a horse and thinks that its a dog. Pepper, surprised that Hamtaro doesn't even know what a horse is, says that she's going to make real hams out of him and Oxnard. While she sets about to that, we get to see Kana's Dad's special activity: bungee jumping off a bridge. It's a relatively tame descent, as far as bungee jumping goes, but Laura's Dad is scared. Pepper gets Hamtaro and Oxnard to climb a donkey and Hamtaro tries to think up some more ways for Oxnard to express his feelings for Pepper. He claims that Pepper rhymes with "Nester" and Oxnard argues that it most definitely doesn't. As Hamtaro argues back that it doesn't have to rhyme exactly, Pepper grows irritated again. She thinks that they dislike the smell of the ranch or something. Hamtaro decides that his efforts aren't working out. He decides to leave Oxnard by himself to come up with some poetry for Pepper. This pains him though, as Pepper is bringing out some ranch-flavored sunflower seeds and he's hungry. Still, he thinks it would be best for Oxnard. Back at the bungee jumping, Kana's Dad has jumped three times, but Laura's Dad still hasn't jumped at all. Kana's Dad begins begins to suspect that he's scared and starts giving him tips on "visualization." Oxnard continues to have trouble expressing his feelings for Pepper and then, things take a turn for the worse. Pepper thinks that he found another girl ham. She demands to know who she is and what her name is. Elsewhere at the ranch, Kana's Mom is picking strawberries and Laura and Kana are milking goats. Laura is having a hard time and makes the goat upset, until Dylan gets her to bond with it. She says that she can't think like a goat, but things go better, when Dylan draws a parallel with her being able to understand what Hamtaro is feeling. Oxnard tells Hamtaro about what happened with Pepper. Hamtaro goes back to the straightforward approach, saying that Oxnard doesn't need fancy words. He should just tell her how he feels, since she seems to really like him too. Then, the two notice Brandy being chased by a bunch of sheep. They nearly get trampled themselves, until Pepper saves them with a well-timed "bah, ram, ewe." Hamtaro once again encourages Oxnard to express his feelings, but he freezes up cold. Then, it comes time to leave. Things may not have gone well for Oxnard, but Laura's Dad finally gets up the courage to bungee jump. In the car on the way home, the window is rolled down and Hamtaro says that it's Oxnard's last chance. Oxnard finally shouts out his passion for Pepper. He wonders if Pepper heard him and Hamtaros says that he thinks she did. That evening, Laura writes in journal about how she can know what Hamtaro is feeling. Hamtaro says if that's so, then he wonders if she knows he wants another sunflower seed.moreless
