Richie, Potsie, and Ralph talk to Marsha about their baseball game in which they lost 14-1. Members of the winning team (Trinity) drive up to celebrate at Arnold's. The boys decide to meet Reverend Harlan and ask him for new uniforms because Richie thinks that if they look like a team they would play better. All they got last year from the Annual Shakespeare Festival were baseball caps. The Cunninghams have dessert in the living room and talk about the play, Hamlet
. Richie, Potsie, and Ralph go to see a man whom Howard bumped into while in the service, Monty Miller, and talk about possibly getting Laurence Olivier
for the lead in the play. After failing to get a big name celebrity, they ask Fonzie if he would act in the play. He is, initially, hesitant but eventually agrees to do it. Fonzie doesn't know who Hamlet is, so Richie tries to teach him from a book at the house. Fonzie arrives at the church and refuses to wear the white tights but does wear a black cape. During the play, Fonzie forgets his lines. Ralph almost breaks out into laughter while listening to Richie's character's speech. Richie talks to Fonzie during the intermission, and Fonzie reveals that his father left him when he was 12 years old. Fonzie makes an inspired, unscripted speech to the audience and gives a great performance during the rest of the play. Afterward, when everyone has left, Fonzie takes a satisfied look around at the empty chairs and stage.
