Episode Recap

In the parking lot of Arthur's drive-in, Richie asks Fonzie if he's seen Potsie. Richie goes inside where he and Potsie take a look at Ralph's hickie. A girl calls for Ralph, and he and his buddies from the Gems leave. Potsie brings Richie outside to show him a book titled I, the Jury by Mickey Spillane. He tells Richie that he'll need it for Mary Lou Milligan with whom Potsie fixed Richie up. Potsie says that Mary Lou kind of has a reputation and once dated a sailor. They go back inside and sit with Ralph and his Gems buddy, Pat. Potsie sees Mary Lou walk by, so he and Richie go over to her booth and sit down. Richie reads some of the "good parts" of the Spillane book out loud and starts with the copyright information. Mary Lou thinks Richie looks like Pat Boone. Richie asks Mary Lou if she'd like to go to a movie, but she is busy babysitting that night. Instead, Mary Lou invites Richie to babysit with her. Mary Lou and her friend, Dorothy, leave.

At the Cunningham house, the family eats dinner. Richie has been acting funny, so Marion asks if anything is wrong. He says there isn't. Chuck leaves for basketball practice. Howard and Marion go into the kitchen and talk about Richie. Howard says Richie only has growing pains and that he'll outgrow it.

At Arthur's, Potsie finds Richie in the restroom. He tells Richie what Mary Lou likes. He pulls a bra out of his jacket to show Richie how to unclasp it. Richie says he'll do things his own way and leaves. Potsie tries to unclasp the bra but has trouble. Potsie leaves. Fonzie comes in and gets it on the first shot. He goes to comb his hair, but sees that it is perfect and leaves. Outside, Potsie tells Richie that he'll do all right with Mary Lou.

At the Kelly's house (where Mary Lou is babysitting), Mary Lou lets Richie in. They sit on the couch. Richie reads more of the book. They begin to kiss after Richie chews some gum. While they're kissing, Richie tries to unclasp Mary Lou's bra through her shirt, but she stops him. They play chess.

On the baseball field, Richie tells Potsie that Mary Lou is a nice girl. Mary Lou comes over and says that she had fun the other night and would like to do it again. All of the guys standing around take this to mean more than it does. Ralph asks Richie if he "did," to which Richie replies, "You kidding?" Fonzie, who is sitting on the bleachers, gives a thumbs up.

Back at the Cunningham house, Howard enters the bathroom where Richie is showering. He asks what's bothering him, but Richie says that he doesn't know if he can talk about it because it's sexual. He says that "his friend" lied to everyone about a girl. Howard says his friend should tell everyone the truth, and he'll feel much better.

Outside of Jefferson High, Richie talks to Mary Lou. Mary Lou says that her reputation is unjustified and that everyone who goes out with her says they did things that they really didn't. She says that she only kisses. She thanks Richie for telling the truth about her. Fonzie drives up on his motorcycle as Mary Lou leaves. Richie tells Fonzie the truth about what happened with Mary Lou. Fonzie says that he got a date with Mary Lou based on what Richie initially told him. He tells Richie not to lie to him anymore. Mary Lou comes back, and she and Fonzie ride off.

Richie and Potsie talk outside of the school. Potsie leaves his books on the hood of a car while he ties his shoes, and the car drives off.
