Richie's old girlfriend, Arlene, is back in town after being away for quite some time. They only had a very brief flirtation but this time, Richie senses that Arlene is much more in the mood for committment than she was before her family moved to New York, but now that they are back in Wisconsin, it appears that she has very definite plans for her future and that those plans include Richie.

Richie remembers well that things didn't exactly go smoothly with Arlene but she seems to be of the opinion that they have both changed and matured and wants to go steady. As a result, Richie is stuck in a situation with which he is not entirely comfortable and has to find a way out of it.moreless

    • Fonzie: I went out with a girl like that once. Broke up with her in two and a half minutes. Richie: How did you do it? Fonzie: Well, I wrote a note and threw it through her window. Of course, it was wrapped in a brick. Edit
    • Richie: She said she'd do something desperate. Ralph: How desperate can you get in a ladies' room? Richie: Do you know what's in a ladies' room? Ralph: No, do you? Edit
