Richie wins a date with a movie star, Cindy Shea, to a school dance, and Gloria breaks up with him because of circumstances surrounding it. Cindy, however, will only be able to meet up with Richie after the dance has started.

    Cindy Shea (Cheryl Ladd) is a famous name in the movies and every boy's dream. Richie is over the moon when he wins a date with her to go to the school dance but is slightly disappointed when he learns that she won't be able to join him until the dance has actually started.

    Meanwhile, Gloria, (Linda Purl) Richie's current girlfriend is very jealous when she hears the news but nothing can rain on Richie's parade as he excitedly waits for Cindy to arrive. When she does, the flashbulbs pop and Richie is in seventh heaven but when escorting Cindy back to her hotel room, he comes back to earth with a thud when he finds that she is actually married.

    A very good episode and great to see Cheryl Ladd, later well known for her role in "Charlie's Angels".moreless

    Richie wins a date to the school dance with Hollywood starlet Cindy Shea (a pre-'Charlie's Angles' Cheryl Ladd).

    Obviously, things aren't destined to work out right - as Richie first finds that he must go through a series of staged photo shoots, and then will not spend the whole dance with Cindy.

    This is one of the first episodes of 'Happy Days' that I can remember ever watching as a child (and it would have already been a repeat showing, as it was made 4 years before I was born!). For some reason, Ralph's line about how the woman's leg lifts up when kissing has stuck in my head all these years.

    As I say, you just know things aren't going to work out for Richie, but it's interesting to see how they get there. Finding out that Cindy smokes and drinks reminds me of Marty's unwanted date with his mother in 'Back to the Future' (1985).

    Also to note with this episode is that Potsie and Ralph are slowly but graudually being paired together more, freeing up the Richie-Potsie relationship of the first season for Richie to find his own adventures more, and to evnentually make way for more Fonzie-focused stories.

    All-in-all, an enjoyable instalment.moreless

    With my first review of HAPPY DAYS, let it be said that Season 1 and 2 were the best, with Season 3 having some great stories. Fonzie's appearances were more minor, but hit the nail on the head, and were not overboard.

    I saw a piece of a later episode on TV several weeks ago (filmed in front of a live audience), and couldn't believe how over-the-top and crummy this show became as it continued.

    I remember my brother and I finding the first season back in 1974, and thinking it's too good too last. Well, it got too bad to last so long.

    This episode features beautiful Cheryl Ladd, and this highlights so much of what was so right with the early episodes. Richie acts within the constraints of the script, and is excellent. The story rings true, and has some great bittersweet points.

    Sorry about your "Love Me Tender" -- but I was going to play "Jailhouse Rock" is a great line.

    DVD set has overdubbed music (not that there was much original music before), but the '50s songs by Elvis imitators and other stars of the '50s put a small hole in the episode. I'll have to keep my TV versions, too.moreless
