A Happy Endings Community
ABC (ended 2013)

Well, we can't exactly call this unexpected news. After months of assuming Happy Endings would be canceled, and then after it was canceled by ABC but we all hoped that maybe a different network would pick it up, we now know that Happy Endings is OFFICIALLY officially canceled. Deadline reports that after weeks of trying to find a new home for the show, Sony TV has given up, and the cast's contracts expire this weekend.

After the show's axing at the hands of ABC, there was word that the comedy might be shipped off to a cable network like USA (which showed initial interest), TBS, or TNT. But USA passed, and no other networks stepped in to pick it up. Crazy speculation: The lack of a big-name star didn't help, as Courteney Cox's name being attached to Cougar Town did when Cougar Town moved to TBS.

It's a shame, because anyone with a funny bone knows that Happy Endings was the funniest Friends-ripoff-inspired comedy since Ross and Rachel got married. If you're looking for someone to blame, you can point your fingers at ABC for its lousy scheduling and marketing of Happy Endings. But really the bastards who got this show canceled were the people of America! Screw you, people of America!

Why did they put Happy Endings up against New Girl that had Zoey Deschanel right when she was really getting popular? If they had either changed the time so it wasn't competing against another show with the same target audience and similar plot line OR if they had got an actress or actor who was on course to gain popularity then maybe this could have been salvaged.

Another amazing show ends prematurely. I can't believe the stuff people will watch over a gem of a show like this, and also can't believe the network didn't advertise this show better when it was on. Unbelievable the ratings it got on this site/Imdb, people suck.

Hey, you know what? It's cool. This means the Coach can return to New Girl. Later, Winston.

True Happy Endings fans. We need to start a Kickstarter movement for a 4th season. Screw networks. If Veronica Mars can get a movie. I think we can get a 4th season.

Q: For those who don't like a certain TV show, why are you commenting on the story in the first place? Yes I know: freedom of speech yada yada -- no one's trying to deny your "rights". But the negative comments are unnecessary and a real turn-off. I really liked "Happy Endings" and am sorry to see it go, but if I wasn't a fan of the show I wouldn't be on this page to begin with.

The show was OK - I did keep watching all the way, but the show suffered from over acting and I think that is the main reason it didn't work ...

But over acting was part of the schtick that made it so funny.

If it's any consolation people did not watch this show, so that they'd have time to watch brilliant masterpieces such as 'So you think you can juggle while singing acapella"...

This makes my mood go from bad to very bad. Farewell, Happy Endings. We had some good times. Hopefully we'll get to see Coupe, Cuthbert, Knighton, Wayans Jr., Pally and Wilson soon in other shows. They all have real talent, especially Cuthbert was a pleasant surprise as a comedienne.

Blame Happy Endings for not being a good show. I've seen a few episodes and they were just good. Everything is either cliched or awkward.

Surprising that nobody would want to pick this up. After Community with was my favourite sit-com still on the air. It was very clever and the casting was done so well. No good.

Don't blame audiences, blame the network who put the hilarious show on with almost no support, with bad marketing that did nothing to sell the show, with repeated scheduled changes, with badly-scheduled nights overall. You want to aim that SCREW YOU at the alphabet network for their miserable mishandling of a genuinely funny show, they spend all this money and then waste it with stupid tactics.

Gee, Tim, I'm sorry I couldn't take the time of my busy life to watch a show that you didn't want to get canceled. I'm sure I, and anyone else who never watched the show and couldn't have cared less about it (or who had watched it and just didn't like it) will make a real effort to do better next time. If there is a next time.
Then again, maybe not.

WAY more funny than "Friends" ever was, even on its' best day .... I will miss this program very much - especially Jane & Brad! THOSE two should do their own show, or go on a comedy tour together; they are HI-LAR-R-OUS!!

okay lets not get carried away here.. I certainly enjoyed this show a lot more than stuff like himym and tbbt, but nothing can compete with friends..
really sad its gone.. it was actually good comedy compared to the monotony that was how i met your mother..

'Friends" was pedantic, simplistic, and overbearing at times. Ross had to be one of the most tight-**sed characters in TV history - and the fact that he was even put in that group to begin with is one of America's greatest histories. Seriously, you ask any male in this country, and they'll tell you that the ONLY reason a guy would watch that show was because of Jennifer Aniston (or to please a girlfriend).... PERIOD. I NEVER understood that show's appeal - but then, voters in this country elected Barack Obama - TWICE - so, there you go.

"Happy Endings" had actors who KNEW HOW TO DO COMEDY, and DO IT BASED ON THEIR OWN INNATE TALENTS - as opposed to "Friends," where you had generally poor actors performing mostly worse comedy; and, when the comedy WAS decent, it was because of the writers - NOT the actors. Jeeze, talk about a lowest-common denominator TV show!!!

I've seen friends like 100 times and its not because of Jennifer Aniston or to please a girlfriend (or anyone but myself for that matter).

The show had problems, but one of the major pros of the show is that it was serialized where as Happy Endings was episodic. Episodic shows are usually better for casual viewers but fall pretty flat when you try watching the entire show as a whole. Friends humor also was very relevant and applicable to our lives, where as the humor in Happy Endings was funny and theatrical without necessarily being as relevant to us.

Some shows just work because of a combination of the cast and crew. Firefly is another example of this. If you had the same writing with a different cast, or a different writing team with the old cast you'd probably get a pretty meh show.

but thats exactly what I'm saying. Happy Endings was hardly writing more improv -- and might have had more talented actors but it could never compete with Friends. And no, as annoying as Joey was, or ridiculous Phoebe was, if you replaced any of those characters with some "favourite" from somewhere else, the overall show would've suffered for it.

You might not like Ross, and the show Joey flopped because it was just Joey, but each actor together combined with the writing (as bad or good as any of them indivually were) made Friends a classic.

In 10 years I might think back and be like "oh shit, would've been cool if Happy Endings didn't get cancelled", but in no way would remembering Happy Endings get a similar effect as Friends or Firefly (if you take in a much shorter lived show)

"If you had the same writing with a different cast, or a different writing team with the old cast you'd probably get a pretty meh show."

But you can say that about any TV show, right? The ones that succeed, succeed because of the right combo of writing, direction, and acting talent. My point was that, pound for pound, "Happy Endings" (IMHO) had much better acting talent than "Friends" did - just look at the post-Friends careers of those actors, and how that ended up for them. Even Aniston's movie career post-Friends has been more miss than hit. So it bothers me when people say, "oh, 'Friends" had really talented actors in it!" No, it didn't. It had decent writing ... SOME of the time ... and a (at the time) marquee star in Aniston. If you took the Friends cast, and put them in "HE," they wouldn't have lasted three episodes. Why? Because their level of talent couldn't have carried it that far; even with the much-superior writing. But if you took the HE cast, and put them in "Friends," then I WOULD have watched it - because their TALENT would have raised the mostly mediorcre writing and plots to decent levels, at least.

TELL ME Brad wouldn't have been much funnier than Ross on "Friends!" Come on!!!!

ABC is planning a consistent marketing strategy for home market, so the DVDs now only come in boxes of instant mashed potatoes, and they've moved them to the home crafts aisle. Then they'll insult you in marketing for not buying enough DVDs that you couldn't find.

This show was good in it's first season. Then it became an utter waste of time. Just like "The B**** in Apartment 23". I blame the showrunners and writers for taking a great show and driving it into the ground. Good riddance!

Dude, right? You can only blame networks so much for cancelling a show as awesome as "Happy Endings." When it all comes down to it, when the show was still on the air, it was capable of being found by any number of channel surfers. The primetime audience should've given this beautiful show a chance, but they instead chose to watch news, hour-long crime dramas, or do that thing where they go out and interact with the outside world for some reason. That's just not cool, 'Murica. I'm just thankful that I was able to enjoy the ride while it lasted. I laughed until I could laugh no more, and really, that's all one can ask for from a sitcom of tightly knit quirky friends who find themselves in impossible situations at least once per week.

Thank you for the memories, ya freakin' hosebags!

I sure am gonna miss this show. I can't blame America, but I can blame ABC for moving the show all around. If it would have stayed on Wednesdays. It had good ratings there. I just find it hard to believe that Sony tried hard on saving this show. I can't believe that no one wanted this show. I will say that ABC executive Paul Lee is a lying sack of shit. When he says he likes the show and wants it to stay. And a screw u to USA Network for giving fans false hope. I think I speak for all fans when I say thank you to the cast and crew on that show. I for one will never give up hope. Maybe down the road sometime it will come back to us. I will always use #SaveHappyEndings. I know the casts contracts run out at the end of this month. Maybe they be willing to sign new deals down the road. Just to throw this out there. It would be awesome to send ABC a bunch of stuff for canceling it. Like people sent peanuts for Jericho. But for us it would be like a F U to them for canning it. Now only to figure out what to send. Any ideas??

I've reserved a run-down, unheated room at the Siberian Holiday Inn, where I'll be moving to soon, but only after six months of vicious self-flagellation in East Coast summer humidity. I know that's still probably not enough but I can do only so much.
