Happy Endings is becoming one of the funniest shows on TV. I can't believe the scores it gets on this site (well, I can, since TV.com has a horrible troll problem). It started out as a somewhat forced, decently amusing comedy, but is now firing on all cylinders. This episode was a great example of what the writers and cast do best.
The writing is sharp, with rapid fire jokes and several very well done pop culture references. Pretty much all of the gags work very well. Penny and Max's mother-and-baby costume is amazingly funny, and should definitely be sold in stores next year, though that could get creepy. The trip to the suburbs was great as well, with the "big kids" storyline offering a humorously ominous problem for the characters. The weakest part of the show, namely Alex and Dave, actually do very well in this episode, not annoying and actually getting good mileage out of their storyline.
It certainly isn't the best comedy out there, and doesn't try to be anything more than it isn't, and that's okay. This is the second episode in a row that's been near-perfect, and I hope it continues that way, along with the improving ratings. Let the number of trolls who give this a thumbs down and the episode score itself serve as a notice that opinion on this site, sometimes, has absolutely nothing to do with the quality of the show.
