After reading the premise & watching the promo, count me in!

LA Times Entertainment: TCA Press Tour: ABC's Happy Town is like -- and not like -- Twin Peaks

Excerpt: "...Rosenberg said it seemed like a good time for a spooky show like Happy Town to succeed. Scary series are "either forensic porn ... or vampires," he said.

And again, unlike Twin Peaks, the producers plan on resolving a whole lot of the mystery -- and fast. "I think audiences can tend to be frustrated if every episode is entirely enigmatic," Rosenberg said. "Our mantra was to answer questions."

Spelled out further, Appelbaum said: "We will answer the question of who is the Magic Man by the end of the first season. To us, that's playing fair with the audience. It's a shocking revelation. ... It will turn the show on its head in a great way."

I saw some trailers for this show during the Oscars, and it looks really good! It kind of reminded me a little bit of Stepford Wives mixed in with some Harper's Island, a show I miss. There just needed to be some kind of suspenseful new show on the networks, and it seems like it'll be different.

Based on the previews I saw, I'm definitely looking forward to this new show!!

Ironic how Harper's Island never had a chance at a second season but now we have Happy Town, which looks very similar. Not that I'm complaining b/c I loved HI, and Twin Peaks back in the day, and this looks quite good.

I'm excited about this show. I also liked Twin Peaks and Harper's Island. I think show has a great cast. The only person I'm not familiar with is Lauren German.

I will watch this show, but I don't think it will last long. All the other recenthorror shows didn't last long (on cbs, nbc).I didn't like Harper's Island though but Fear Itself was awesome on nbc.

Can't believe that finally ABC got a Mystery/Horror Show. After they didn't pick up the Pilot for Secrets of a small Town i was so upset because i liked the Pilot sooo much. Happy Town looks good hopefully it will last for more than 1 Season. I don't know why the Networks didn't start Horror/Mystery Series in the Fall!!!

It should be a mini series, it can't last as a full on series... you can't drag out the killer's identity that long.

Since the show is only 8 episodes long, it is sort of a mini-series anyways; so we've got seven more to come. Plus the killer(s) will be shown during the last episode only to the audience but not to the other characters, which I think is kinda neat.

Where did you hear this ? Did someone confirm there was more than one killer.

Harper's Island was a planned miniseries with a finite ending... There was never supposed to be anything more than just 13 episodes.

Ok, I just saw the last two episodes and since noone said it, i will: WTF? What was the show about? What happened to the victims, what was alice motives, what was the deal with Chloe, what was the deal with Xavier and Merrit, whats with the movie "blue door", whats with the insane mother...? I have to say Happy Town started very promising, then became an interessting show which concluded with a BS ending. At least Sam Neil was great.

I completely agree. The last episode did not resolve anything, it only told us who the Magic Man was. The audience wasn't even given a chance to figure who the Magic Man was because no real clues were even given through out each episode. We didn't even find out who the Magic Man was until the last 3 mins. The last scene had more questions than answers.

Exactly, I was like "Ok, they have five minutes. How will they solve everything in just five minutes?" and then the deus ex machina and the anti-climax.
Really was very disappointed, because this series definatly had potential. But will soon be forgotten.

The conclusion is really annoying because there were really no clues that points to the Magic Man.

And by the way why is the hammer so important? Clearly no one has been killed with it. And why was it hidden in the widows house and not with the Haplins? What happened to the other victims and why is the Haplin Daughter back? Why did Alice cut of the hand and kidnapped here daughter in law? and ahhhhhh so many questions !!!

Really disappointing, but at least we got a magic man better than be left alone withut a killer like in REUNION years ago.

She's not. At the end of the seventh episode the mother, who clearly had gone off the deep end, was at a plastic surgeon and asked for a completely different appearance, including blonde hair. She basically had herself rebuilt in her daughter's image. I was actually surprised that they followed up on that one. I had a feeling that what happened to her was going to remain a mystery.

As for the rest of the show, and series, wow. I really didn't see any clues that Alice was alive, never mind the Magic Man. It's pretty obvious this was meant to be a cliffhanger season-ender, rather than a final episode. They really threw so much out there in this one, which unfortunately just created more and more questions.

Plus, what on earth was the deal with The Blue Door? And how/why was Big Dave in it?

Damn, I'm really annoyed that they ended it this way.
