Hard Knocks (1987)

Show Summary

Hard Knocks (1987) is an action drama series from the Showtime Network that brings together two private detectives with completely different styles, searching for bad guys in Los Angeles. The level-headed Gower (Bill Maher) and his tough-guy best friend Nick (Tommy Hinkley) open a private detective agency in Beverley Hills, trying to tap into the city's rich clientele. What they find each week is a town full of wackos with many problems that need solving. Early in the season, the two private eyes set up camp in the back of Maggie's Restaurant, where Nick's niece Terry (Babette Props) and husband Silky (James Vallely) work. The sleuths meet the owner, an ex-con named Maggie (Judith-Marie Bergan), who serves as a good informant throughout the season for the detectives. While solving a case, Gower hooks up with Sheila Jesswalters (Gracie Harrison), who is always up to no good. As Gower and Nick solve their crimes each week, they soon discover that they are actually part of a big set up constructed by a L.A. mob boss named Tony (Tom Spiroff).
