  • An Ivy League law degree is no substitute for experience in the courtroom. Also, no divorce court.

In this first installment of this long-forgotten sitcom, we meet James Harrigan Sr., an experienced lawyer, and his son, known as Junior. Junior has just graduated with a Doctorate of Jurisprudence, and talks his dad into letting him join the firm. We also meet Gypsy, Senior's secretary, and Miss Claridge, who works for Junior. Miss Claridge is much more efficient than the blonde bombshell, Gypsy, but Gypsy's people skills and ability to get information are invaluable.

Jim and Junior take the case of a woman who acted as caregiver for a sick man for a few years, and she believes she is entitled to a chunk of his estate after his death. Jim Sr. grills her in an attempt to get at the truth of her real function and her value as the man's caregiver, and Junior objects. Jim explains that the opposition will grill her even harder, so she must be prepared. Jim wants her to settle, but Junior disagrees.

Early on, Jim puts his foot down in insisting they will take no divorce cases. That is a reflection of the beliefs of series star Pat O'Brien, a staunch Catholic.moreless
