ORWELL [VOICEOVER]: I got a call at 7:00 a.m. His name was Kershaw, and he worked for the Department of Motor Vehicles. He wanted to see me immediately: now that sounded like trouble. Then he asked if I could come to his home: now that made him sound like a client. I usually don't make house calls that early in the morning, particularly when I can't get any details over the telephone. But when you drive a car like mine, and someone from the Department of Motor Vehicles requests your presence, it's not just sound practice to seem uncooperative.

ORWELL: You Doreena.
DOREENA: Madame Doreena.
ORWELL: Well…uhm…Madame, I'd like…
DOREENA: Bite your tongue, sonny…
ORWELL: I'd like to consult you.
DOREENA: Cross my palm…only an amateur gives it away.

TRENCH: Orwell!!!...
ORWELL: It's a good question.
TRENCH, SHEEPISHLY: Now, ,Mr. Meredith…what.color.was the necktie?

ERIC [LOOKING AT SHIP IN A BOTTLE, A GIFT FROM ORWELL]: How did it get in there?
ORWELL: I made a wrong turn…Uh…it uh…well, they put it, put it in sections…and then they uh…well they do…they pull it out or something.…It takes a lot of patience, a lot of time.
ERIC: Only it's like your boat—it'll never sail anywhere.
ORWELL: I know. It's better than my boat: it'll go anywhere you want to go. All you have to do is use your imagination. Just look at the boat, imagine where you want to go, it'll take you there. Bring you back in the same day.
