        Quote 1
[Orwell enters Trench's office and takes a seat during a conversation between Lt. Trench and Sgt. Roberts. During the conversation that follows, Orwell and Trench, though really speaking to one another, direct their conversation toward Sgt. Roberts, seated between them.]
TRENCH [to Sgt. Roberts without acknowledging Orwell]: Roberts, did somebody just knock?
        ROBERTS: No sir.
TRENCH: Well, it must have been the wind. Nobody comes into my office without knocking.
ORWELL [to Roberts]: Roberts, you just missed the main event.
TRENCH: I try to avoid elaborate trivialities.
ORWELL: About an hour ago, two guys kicked me around.
TRENCH: That's what I mean. But, you wanna know what [Roberts]? He probably walked into their office without knocking.
ORWELL: We were all looking for the same thing when we ran into each other, Roberts.
TRENCH: …What were they looking for, Roberts?
ORWELL: Who were they looking for?
TRENCH: Roberts, for whom were they looking.
ORWELL: For my client's daughter, Roberts!
TRENCH: ….Orwell has managed to rekindle my lack of interest.
ORWELL: Roberts, would you be interested if I told you this is a possible homicide?
TRENCH: ….When Orwell comes in, have him follow me.

        Quote 2
ORWELL: Can I talk to you…about Nancy Wayne?
KITTY: Well, what… is she in trouble?
ORWELL: Why? You say that like you're not surprised.
KITTY: Because today everybody want to know about her—the cops, the bad guys…Now, why do you?...Who are you?
ORWELL: My name is Harry Orwell. [In a false hushed whisper] I'm a private detective….
KITTY: ….You a good guy, huh?
ORWELL: It depends on who you talk to.

        Quote 3
TRENCH [commenting on the release of a lesser member of drug ring]: Sometimes you let the little fish go, you get the whole school.
        ORWELL: Even the principle.
