Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • (Continuity error)
Up in the barn loft, after Col. Pike has guessed their whereabouts, Paladin awakens Juliet and warns her to be still before moving away. Juliet glances at the doll she's holding, and then (perhaps embarrassed that Paladin found her clutching it) throws it aside. The camera cuts to one of the younger Pikes entering the barn. When the camera cuts back to Juliet, she looks down at the doll that she's holding, then we hear the sound of it hitting the straw as she tosses it aside.

    • (Nitpick) Paladin seems to have made some adjustments to his gun. In the very first episode, he states that the trigger responds to one ounce of pressure, but here he tells Juliet that it is two ounces.

    • (Nitpick) When the stagecoach is attacked, the man riding shotgun announces that he cannot hit them; they are staying back out of shotgun range. The next instant, the driver is hit in the arm...with a handgun, which should have been even further out of range.

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Paladin: Now Miss Harper, there's an old rule, and a very good one: young ladies should not stare at strangers. Particularly very young ladies--it causes misunderstandings.
Juliet: I'm old enough to take care of myself. I'm eighteen.
Paladin: Let's see, that means you're actually seventeen; at your age, the female of the species adds one year.

    • Paladin: As Ben Jonson said, "Good judgement is forced upon us by age and experience."
Juliet: You keep trying to sound so blamed old. Are you trying to impress me or to convince yourself?

    • Hey Boy: The lady with red hair--she waiting in dining room.
Paladin: Oh yes, the lady with red hair. Well, Hey Boy, supper for two, champagne, and Napoleon brandy.
Hey Boy: You all right, Mr. Paladin?
Paladin: Well, Mr. Paladin will be better before this evening is over. He'll feel less noble, but much better.

    • Paladin: ...the gun that I ordinarily carry in this holster has a two ounce trigger pull. Do you know what that means? Touch it, breath on it and it fires.

    • Paladin: Now, Gentlemen, I usually begin more politely, but in the last few hours I've been beaten, abused, shot at, I've lost my horse and my gun and now I want some answers.

    • Ben Jonson (1572-1637)

A contemporary, friend, and rival of Shakespeare, he never garnered much general acclaim for his poetry; he is best known by scholars.
