    • Father Clare: (asking Paladin for a favor) Think on it, Paladin. It would be interesting. A miracle wrought by a man who might play Mephistopheles.

    • Lundeen: Uh, we don't ride with Indians.
Paladin: Friend, they understand English. You don't come with us now, they'll consider it an insult and insist on staying here with you. I leave it to your imagination what'll happen one second after I'm out of sight.

    • Father Clare: (as Paladin rides up with Lundeen and his thugs) Converts, Mr. Paladin?
Paladin: Father, I leave that miracle up to you.

    • Paco: There is still the festival.
Paladin: Yes. At least praise be for Brother Wind, and for the sky, and for the clouds... (glares at Paco) and all thy creatures.

    • Paladin: At least praise be for Brother Wind, and for the sky, and for the clouds and all thy creatures.
Paladin paraphrases from The Canticle of the Sun, a religious song composed by St. Francis. Francis purportedly composed it in 1224, and it is one of the first literary works written in Italian. Translations vary, but the line Paladin paraphrases in the original is: "Be praised, my Lord, through Brothers Wind and Air, and clouds and storms, and all the weather, through which you give your creatures sustenance."
