Another episode directed by Boone - full to its back teeth with irony. The characters who seek the elusive Celine, kill each other while trying to be the first to reach him and get the thing they desire. By the time Paladin finds Celine, he seems legendary. Even in a monk's robe, he looks way cool.
Perplexing elements -
Why does the young man believe Celine has a fabulous black diamond? What makes the beautiful woman (BW) think she has a terminal disease? What makes Paladin think that the BW is one of the most fascinating women he has met (or does he think ALL women are the most fascinating in some way)? Why is the BW's former lover so angry when she says she still loves Celine? What is on the paper the businessman wants Celine to sign? If Celine has a sackfull of money - why is the monastary so poor? This is a gripping tale despite the lack of time needed to develop the characters fully.
