  • Trivia

    • (goof) After the two henchmen set fire to the brush around the cut logs in Evans' camp, we see Paladin, on horseback, turn his horse back and point. Evans turns his horse and comes alongside Paladin on his left. Paladin comments that the smoke they see is too much for a campfire, and the next shot shows Evans on Paladin's right side.

      Paladin: Courage is the price life exacts for granting peace. The soul that knows it not knows no release from little things.

      The writer slipped up here. Paladin is quoting from a poem called "Courage", written by Amelia Earhart Putnam, who was not born until 1898.

  • Quotes

    • Preston: Mr. Paladin, you don't know it, but you're traveling with a man who has been a highly successful failure at everything he ever tried.
      Paladin: Oh?
      Preston: That's right. Money? I never had to work for it. Inherited it. And liquor? Inherited my appetite for that, too. I've been a candidate for reform by friends, relatives, and sanctimonious crackpots of both sexes. Well, they all gave up after a while. And I gave up before they got started.

    • Paladin: You know for the first time in your life you may right. It may be too late for you!

    • "Courage"

      Courage is the price that life exacts for granting peace.
      The soul that knows it not, knows no release
      From little things;
      Knows not the livid loneliness of fear,
      Nor mountain heights where bitter joy can hear
      The sound of wings.

      Amelia Earhart Putnam (1898-1937)
