    Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

    • TRIVIA (1)

      • After they complete the "bank job", Paladin and Turner slip outside, waiting to join up with the Salvation Army Band as it returns. We can hear the captain warbling away, but it is quite obvious that she is marching along with her mouth shut, just keeping time with her hand.

    • QUOTES (2)

      • Paladin: Paris, Vienna, Prague. Heh. You really think you were gonna find freedom in those places?
Turner: Well, a man has to dream about something. I mean, I didn't want to spend out the rest of my days in a little cashier's cage, counting out other people's money. So for two years I planned to steal it. At night in my room, it was something to do. Actually, it was easy. I had access to the safe. Everyone trusted me. "Good Old Turner". So Friday I picked it up and walked away with it. And I was on my way.
Paladin: Well, why didn't you keep going?
Turner: Well, I hadda stop and drew up outside to get water, I heard her crying in here. Just sitting alone right in here, all alone. Well, I couldn't leave here, not when she needed me. Can you understand that?
Paladin: I think I can. But, I'm here now, so, you don't have to stay anymore.
        Turner: I promised.

      • Captain: Bless you, gentlemen, that was beautiful. Bless you, thank you. He who gives that which he has, though it be clay or a stone of gold, shall be rewarded.
Paladin: Well, I sincerely hope so.

    • NOTES (1)

      • John Fiedler and Richard Boone were "great friends", having gone to dramatic school together. Fiedler was pleased when Boone personally asked him to star in this episode. He required a stunt double for the scene where he swung across the alley to the bank window (which may imply that Richard Boone did not). Fiedler also enjoyed being directed by Ida Lupino, saying that she made it "a lot of fun".
