  • Many of us prefer a pleasing vision to ordinary reality. In this episode a lady in a painting is depicted in the perfection of her youth. Others enjoy celebrating that perfection and the reality, that she has grown old, is not important to them.moreless

Interesting story about men, grown past their own prime, who have a mutual admiration for the painting that hangs in the local tavern of a young woman.

There is an old drudge who cleans the hotel above the tavern and who is always eager to gulp down any free alcoholic beverages that come her way. This actress convincingly portrays a once-beautiful girl (she is, in fact, a very beautiful older woman) who is unnoticed by others. Meanwhile the glory of her youth hangs upon a wall and is adored by all who come into the tavern.

A small, sweet tale in which it is again revealed why Paladin was loved by his female audience so avidly. It never seems to matter to him the age, shape or condition in which she is found - a woman who is not frankly bad to the bone, will find an admirer in him. Hard to find fault in a man who loves women.moreless

    • Jansen: It was pretty dangerous, though, Bonanza in the old days. I collected the first tax that was ever collected, with my hat in one hand, gun in the other.

    • Paladin: Well, it's going to be a unique experience, anyway, being run out of a town for discovering a man was taking his own property.

    • Boucher: You're out of your mind. I'm offering you wealth and immortality.
Miss Felton: Oh, Mr. Boucher, you can't offer me immortality. Because Henry Soutell gave that to me.

    • (The four elderly men have invaded Paladin's room)
      Jansen: Well, where is it?
      Paladin: Where is what?
      Adams: You know what.
      Jansen: Better come downstairs.
Paladin: Well--now, first, you're gonna have to explain to me. (Snatches Adams' gun)
Jansen: You're gonna have to come down or we'll have to take ya.
Paladin: Mr. Jansen, I have a gun here.
      Jansen: It don't matter.
      Paladin: It don't?
