Recurring Role |
(Nitpick) Coey persuades Paladin to let him sit at a table for a meal. When Paladin beckons him to come out, Coey promptly slams the door. We see him dropping a bar across the door, but a few moments later, Paladin bursts through using a moderate blow from his shoulder.
This episode is the very first western directed by a woman. Ida Lupino would go on to direct other episodes, as well as episodes of other westerns.
Joe Gage: You're a fool. Walk away from him!
Paladin: I told you, he's not for sale.
Joe Gage: I hope you know what you're dyin' for. That's a blessing few of us get.
(Following a sharp encounter with an angry young lady)
Hey Boy: Mr. Paladin--all is finish?
Paladin: All is finished, Hey Boy. But to know her was a liberal education--that's paraphrase, but attributed to Lady Hastings.
Paladin: Thrice armed is he that hath his quarrel just--and four times he that gets his fist in fust. That's an old English proverb, John.
Wildhorse: This thing you talk about, this justice. Do you think it was worth it? Worth all this?
Paladin: If I didn't, I wouldn't have done it.
Paladin's "Old English proverb" is an extension of a line from Shakespeare. King Henry the Sixth, Part II, Act 3, scene 2.
"What stronger breastplate than a heart untainted!
Thrice is he armed that hath his quarrel just.
And he but naked, though locked up in steel,
Whose conscience with injustice is corrupted."
