  • Piers Morgan makes a fool of himself...

    9.3
This was both remarkable and painful, and it was all down to Piers Morgan. In the DVD commentary and various other interviews, Paul Merton (who was on hiatus during this episode) and Ian Hislop suggest that Piers is usually surrounded by people who will laugh at any joke he makes in order to toady up to him. Naturally, Clive Anderson, Ian, Angus and the viewing public are not going to be the same!

The show starts fairly calmly, but as Piers' jokes fail to get a response, and Clive/Ian interject with jokes that DO get laughs, you can see Piers get more and more frustrated, resorting to personal attacks on Ian ("Does anyone really like him?") and Clive, who said that "the last time I had a go at you, there were photographers outside my door yesterday". The show and other guests basically inspired Piers to portray himself as a vicious bully, who uses his newspaper resources for his own vendettas. It makes his burst to fame on talent shows completely unfathomable!moreless
