Audrey: Your father just offered me a job.
Nathan: What did you say?
Audrey: I said that I would think it over.
Nathan: Might be a good idea.
Audrey: Really? What makes you say that?
Nathan: February 1983. I was 7. I went sledding on that hill right over there. I crashed into a tree, but I felt fine so I ran back up the hill, ready to go again. Lisa Botkee took one look at me and threw up. I had blood all over my coat, my bones sticking out of my arm and I never felt a thing. It wasn't the only bad thing that happened that year. I don't remember a lot of it, just people whispering, kids pulled out of school.
Audrey: "The Troubles."
Nathan: A couple of years later I got better and stopped hearing about them.
Audrey: And you're afraid they're coming back?
Nathan: No. They are back. I'm afraid they won't go away this time.
Audrey: Anyway, I never, I never knew my parents.
Bobby: You ever think about them?
Audrey: There were graduations, proms, things like that they didn't, you know, show up for. But in a way, you're luckier than me.
Bobby: Because I knew my parents.
Audrey: Yeah. And because your new family showed up.
Driscoll: I pity you, Nathan. You walk alone but you think your shadow's the Lord. But the Lord cast you out and now, you're truly alone.
Nathan: Maybe I am alone, maybe I always will be. But I'm not trying to lose myself in the bottom of a bottle.
Audrey: This is a funny town you've got here.
Chief Wournos: Well, I'd say "unique." Now is there a point coming my way?
Audrey: I've been a lot of help to you recently--discreet help. And I was just hoping for a little quid pro quo.
Chief Wournos: Ooh, that sounds illicit.
Audrey: I was shooting for "civil."
Audrey: Whoa... all right, so first question is: why is there a giant metal ball?
Nathan: Oh, everyone knows that ball.
Audrey: Second question: there's a ball everyone knows about?
Audrey: You don't mind, do you?
Nathan: Mind what?
Audrey: I invited myself along.
Nathan: It's a huge metal ball. Who could resist that?
Audrey: So, what as that between you and his daughter?
Nathan: I asked Hanna to the prom without her father's permission. He found out, and said she couldn't go.
Audrey: So the prom is why the Rev would barely look at you?
Nathan: Well, that, and 'cause we ignored him, went up to the ledge, and watched the meteor shower.
Nathan: And... meteor showers are better naked.
Audrey: And I know you'll think this is ridiculous, but when you think about it, it's gotta be the Rev who's doing it. He collects butterflies, and I saw a butterfly right before I was cocooned. I can't believe I'm saying that.
Nathan: Me either.
Nathan: I already called the church office, she's at the food bank. Her favorite days are when her father's somewhere else.
Audrey: They said that?
Nathan: Well... I might have added that last part.
Injoke: The opening credits feature an old issue of the Herald which says, "The most Revered Flagg to elaborate on the proper devices & most godly mechanisms for the examination and discovery of wytches." This references Stephen King's character Randall Flagg, who first appeared in The Stand, and since became one of the central villains of the Dark Tower series.
