  • Nice episode

    9.0
Overall this was a great episode. The only problem for me is that Victor Hesse has the worst Irish accent ever. The actor playing Victor probably got the accent off some tv show and never had any proper voice lessons.
  • An old foe returns and a new one arrives.

    9.5
From the opening scene until the end credits, this episode runs on high. The episode was well-crafted- from writing to production to acting. Alex O'Loughlin rally shined in this episode, as did Daniel Dae Kim. Grace Park did well with what little she was given, and as always- Scott Caan was amazing. The episode answered very little in the way of questions, and gave us a few dizzying ones to add to the list. The ending gave us a sense of peace (at Danno's place), and of happiness. But that final scene in the prison... the rest of the season is on track to be exciting and amazing.moreless
  • The dead body of a man wanted by the US for selling arms to Al Queda is fished out of the ocean. McGarrett soon learns the man had ties to Victor Hesse who is alive and well living in Hawaii. Things soon take a dramatic turn for the worse.moreless

Wow! Victor Hesse is alive! What a shock. Sang managed to escape too. Who saw that coming? This episode, while quite entertaining, is another example of the problem with this show I have mentioned in previous reviews. We once again see old, tired plot devices we have seen countless times (The man we all thought was dead is alive.). Despite that what manages to keep this episode afloat are the strong action sequences and the top notch performances. It's nice for once to see Grace Park have a significant role and show her genuine acting talent. Good but flawed episode.moreless
  • Whoa! Wo Fat!

    8.5
This promises to get really good, assuming the adversarial relationship is as intense as it was in the original show. And how does Hesse know that McGarrett is "too close" to the truth? Has Mary Ann disclosed some of that information she was rifling through a few episodes ago? I think she's going to end up in serious trouble over it, but I don't think that trouble will be undeserved. I still think she's a bad seed.

And while in the background Chin was prominent in tonight's story, he actually had surprisingly little screen time: a point which continues to frustrate me for his and Kono's characters. I was hoping to see the Governor (Jean Smart) upon mention of her with respect to the ransom, and again was disappointed not to...just because Jean Smart is so darned good!

However, I suspect that Stevie-boy will have some serious explaining to do over the 10 mill, and I suspect she will want to have first hand knowledge of said explanation. I suspect we'll see her AND hear her, and maybe the only way Steve can redeem himself is to either catch Wo Fat ("Fat" chance!) or solve that cold drug case and exonerate Chin.moreless

  • QUOTES (7)

    • Danny: So, let me get this Hostess Bar thing straight? They're not allowed to touch any of the girls? These guys are buying them drinks all night for what?
      Steve: To talk.
Danny: Why would anyone want to talk to them? (Steve stares at him) I'm serious, I'm just asking.

    • Danny: Hey, you want to talk about what just happened or no?
Steve: Later, we have work to do.
Danny: Later, hey, hey, hey for me. I just want to know, are we really going to go break into a police station to steal some drug money?
Steve: Danny, I know what you are gonna say, alright. We cops, we don't steal, there has to be another way to do this. There's not another way to do this. Danny, look around, okay? By the way, I'm not a cop, I'm a SEAL.
Danny: Okay, would you relax, your getting me wrong, okay. Superman, bring it down, just a notch. If our boy's in trouble we do what we got to do, I understand that. I'm just trying to measure the level of insanity we're dealing with.
      Steve: High, High!
      Danny: Clearly.
      Steve: Alright?
      Danny: Yes.

    • (At the prison to see Sang Min)
Danny: This is depressing, okay. They got a nicer tree than I do.
      Steve: Your tree is fine.
Danny: No, my tree's not fine. It's small, it's depressing, it's pathetic, okay?
Steve: No, it's just like your apartment. It's perfect.

    • Victor Hesse: Do you realize the last time we spoke like this, I killed your father?
Steve: Yeah, and I killed your brother. Score's been settled.
Victor Hesse: Would be if I believed in the Law of Retaliation. Eye-for-an-eye's just not my style, Steve.

    • Steve: We found out Victor Hesse is still alive.
Sang Min: You're not a very good shot, are you?

    • Steve: How is Victor Hesse even alive? I mean I put two shots straight through the guy's chest.
Chin: The guy's a cockroach. It's what they do. They come back from the dead. Next time you step on him, don't take your foot off.

    • Danny: Can I ask you a question? Why are you always driving my car?
      Steve: I like to drive.
Danny: No, Rain Man likes to drive. You have control issues.
