  • Worst instance of product placement in the history of media ruined this one for me.

Seriously, there I was, enjoying my guilty pleasure for the season, loving the banter between Caan and O'Loughlin (they could make a show just with them on a car and I'd watch) and then, boom!

Dae Kim tells Grace Park to "Bing" something. You don't know what "Binging" is, other than stuffing your mouth with ice cream after a break up? Don't worry, neither does anyone else, as Microsoft's me-too Google clone withers away. So why oh why did one of the characters in the show I was watching, ostensibly not about internet search engines with smartphone implementation, break out a spanking new Windows 7 phone and proceeded to "Bing" a modern artist in extreme close-up?

I don't know, maybe there's a reason, because I immediately tuned out, so I don't know who killed Danno's buddy or if they catch him in the end (although, really, what are the odds that they don't?).

Look, you get to be my bubble gum and popcorn TV for this season, Hawaii-Five-0, but that doesn't mean I'll sit through *anything*. You've been warned.moreless
  • Really, really, really, really, really good!

    No. Excellent.

Deeper and more intense and completely captivating for the entire hour (well, okay, I didn't pay much attention to the commercials). And also a huge step in character development, and in the cohesiveness in a team of off the grid investigators.

Scott Caan really stepped up to the plate, in a huge way. And his character's loyalty to his former partner also helped bring him closer to his new partner; that link to the old Five-0 loyalty accomplished.

And then Danno and McGarrett also got past a big hurdle in their professional relationship; actually, that same hurdle as with Chin. I'm a happy old viewer now!

Just one question: would it have been too much to ask Danno and McGarrett to shave when they donned their dress uniforms for the memorial? I know its probably some deep-seated Samson thing, but it would've grown back by the next morning...moreless
  • Danny's friend and former HPD partner is found murdered, and IA has taken over the investigation. Danny and the team work to clear his friend's name so the wife and son can get benefits, and find his killer.moreless

*contains spoilers* Scott Caan took hold of this episode early on and never let go. Danny went through a wide range of emotions in the episode- love/happiness with his daughter, watching his daughter leave again, the sorrow of his friend's death, anger and frustration when faced with roadblocks and doubts (especially from his own team), Scott portrays each one vividly. There wasn't as much banter as usual, understandable given the circumstances. And in a role-reversal, Danny's the one that needs to be kept from going to far. In some great character interaction, Steve and Danny butt heads about the possibility of Mecca being a dirty cop. But when he finally figures out why Danny believes what he does (contrary to evidence), Steve really comes through and is a friend to Danny.

Though it wasn't a long scene, one that was touching was at the bar between Danny and Chin. That conversation resonates and I hope it gets built upon later in the series.

This could very well be the best of the season, though I expect great things to come for the show.moreless

    • Danny: (At Meka's funeral) I appreciate you coming. I know you didn't know him.
      Steve: I know you.
      Danny: Thank you.

    • Danny: Cage, you are a prince. A cop gets murdered and burned in a pit, and you are out here practicing your swing.
Cage: How I choose to spend my lunch hour is my business. Some people relieve stress by lifting weights, other by running; I hit little white balls a very long way.

    • Steve: Look, I know you'd like to remind me I'm not a cop...
      Danny: Cause you're not.
Steve: Yeah, whatever. But I know enough to realize that where there's smoke.....
Danny: Where there's smoke? Should we write that on the wall? Where there's smoke? Your honor, he's guilty. Why? There's smoke!

    • Danny: What are you smirking at?
Steve: Nothing, I just... The no tie thing, I like it. You're starting to look like you actually fit in.
Danny:Yeah, well, don't get used to it, okay.

    • Steve: Alright. I wanna ask you something, but I know it's gonna piss you off.
Danny: Do you always have to be so judgmental of me?
      Steve: I'm not judgmental!
Danny: You think I'm some hothead who can't think objectively? I can think objectively.
      Steve: Really.
      Danny: Yes, really. Ask away.
Steve: Okay. Did you and Mecca ever have any issues?
Danny: Any issues? No, no issues, Oprah.

    • Steve: What is it you cops always say? Don't ignore the evidence?
Danny: Okay, let me ask you a question. Let's say IA accused me of skimming off a drug lord and they showed you a stack of evidence that suggests that I did it. Would you believe them?
      Steve: No I wouldn't.
Danny: Why not? (Steve doesn't answer) Exactly.
      Steve: Okay.(Chuckles)
      Danny: Yeah, okay what?
Steve: Okay, we can move on, okay.

    • Danny: What are you doing here?
Steve: Came to ask you a question.
Danny: You did? Well, if it's to the prom, I already have a date, but I'm flattered, thank you.
Steve: That's funny. Look man, I know your pissed, alright. I'm just trying to figure out if it is because they told you Make was dirty. O if because you found out he was actually dirty and you didn't know about it.
Danny:Okay listen to me, this is not an ego thing.

    • Steve: Just for the record, if I pulled something like this, you'd be reading me the riot act about proper police procedure.
Danny: No, I'd probably just arrest you.
Steve: Compared to this, hanging a guy off a roof or throwing a guy in a shark cage is pretty tame.
Danny: No, I disagree, I think the shark cage was way worse than this.
Steve: Whatever. You're wrong. I'm just saying to be clear, next time I get a free pass.

    • Danny: Our job is to go after the suspect! Not the victim! Not the previously convicted, the suspect, Ochoa! He deals drugs and he's dangerous! That's what I'm gonna focus on, okay?
Steve: I'm so glad you're not a hothead. I would hate to work with someone like that.
