  • "Twelve Angry Men" meets the underworld on the island of Oahu. Slightly overdrawn and too melodramatic.

    6.5
McGarrett and "Five-O" must figure out which juror is being squeezed in a trial to put a key mobster in jail.

There's a nice change of pace as this episode focuses on the legal system and while an hour is too short to develop a good sense of the personalities of the jurors, there is some effort to make the characters distinct (conservative, liberal, very concerned by drugs, etc.). I also like the points of the episode that show how important "snitches" are for breaking criminal plots, especially on the higher levels. Often McGarrett wants to know "the word on the street" and it's good to see some time put into it.

The script is just too melodramatic here, putting one juror in a moral vise by kidnapping his daughter is a serious and ultimately stupid thing to do and generally could result in a mistrial at best. It's the kind of thing that organized crime avoids because it draws undue attention. I would prefer a little more time invested in the realistic world of illegal jury tampering, at least in the case of an episode that wants to focus on that aspect.

I wouldn't say this is a great example of the series but it is good for showing the program's versatility over the years.moreless
