  • Some interesting things, the editing of this show leaves a disconnected feeling that makes it less effective than it could have been.

    5.9
McGarrett and his Five-O colleagues work to convince the District Attorney and HPD that he did not murder his girlfriend at her oceanside bungalow.

The mixture of flashbacks and current events is slightly unsettling in this episode, the two seem quite divorced from one another - too bad because the McGarrett/Cathi relationship is not as stilted as some others in the series. There is something odd about numerous personal moments from the past interspersed with scenes of solving the woman's murder - almost adding a sense of a "wasted life" that is sad but that comes off strangely on-screen.

The procedural is about average for the series - as with fingerprints, the idea that tire tracks can lead police to a car they don't know about is just wrong. Tire tracks can be useful linking a crime to a specific known car. The McGarrett frame-up is convoluted but interesting, the idea that Steve solves most of the mystery in one minute a little much.

Nice conclusion to this one, the squeezing of the corrupt mobster acting as a go-between for the jailed criminal is good, McGarrett beating the hitman senseless in the surf is a good expression of his emotion - not only losing his girlfriend but being framed for it as well. The Oahu prison scenes in this episode certainly portray a different place than the bleak locale of earlier episodes - here the grounds are lush and overgrown with mature trees and cultivated bushes.

Good and not-so-good things in this installment.moreless
