  • A truly weird and horrifying episode, stands out as one of the classic examples of Season 6.

Hawaii's State Police grapples with a "rube" family of killers that is baffling in their motives and simple in their approach.

Season 6 marks a time when "Hawaii Five-O" seems to have really been "feeling its oats", there are lots of memorable episodes that hit the small screen this year, the "schizo teen" of "Draw Me A Killer", the capable but psychotic "Hookman", and this one - a story of a deranged and backward family that after killing well over 100 people on the US mainland for food and living expenses, decides to take their lifestyle to the islands of Hawaii (notably, this is the only episode of the series to feature three islands - Oahu, Maui, and the "big Island").

The biggest drawbacks to the episode are McGarrett's strange insistence that fingerprint records are common for most citizens and a fairly unbelievable premise that a family of mass murderers could move across the US without any FBI record connecting the carnage. The strengths of course, are the strong acting abilities of Slim Pickens, Bo Hopkins and Barbara Baxley as a twisted "Ma Barker"-type character. Their unapologetic crime spree is nicely set to a score of fiddles and picked twangs, unusual for the series. Creepy.

McGarrett's astonishment in the final scene is well-scripted and stands as pivotal in the series as a whole.moreless

    • (reading the teletype about crimes across the country possibly committed by the family of killers)
McGarrett: "Estimated number of murders, 125 in the past three years. Estimated amount stolen, $40,000." If I saw that in a movie, I'd walk out in the middle.
      Danno: I wouldn't go in.

    • (At the beauty parlor where Rosalie works)
Rene: Can I help you guys? What do you want?
      Sam: A shave.
Rene: Sorry man, we don't do men here.
      Jeb: We do.
(Jeb pulls out his knife while Sam pulls the "Closed" shade down)

    • Rene: (to Rosalie) You're coolsville baby, you know that? C-triple O-L's ville.

    • Sadie Ferguson: (to McGarrett regarding her view of the murders her family committed) They wasn't kin. They was all strangers.... It don't count with strangers.
(regarding the theft charges) Never stole a cent.... They was dead. What do they want with money when they was dead? It ain't stealin' when they was dead first.
