  • One of the really fine episodes that has great flow, no flat spots, and an accomplished script.

    8.5
McGarrett must piece together the clues when a mysterious figure begins to intimate that someone he knows is in great danger.

This is a first-class actioner, lots of good things going on. The first 40 minutes are particularly exciting as the identity and motive of the killer are completely unknown. The initial clues are interesting but menacing red herrings. Dramatic edits improve the flow as the trail leads through a "back door" to the office of the Governor and to a flashback of Cameron's hearing. Also of note is that McGarrett and the Governor have some of their best exchanges in this episode, nice screenplay touches as the Governor insists that a death threat cannot intimidate a public official from doing a job he has asked for. The idea that killing the Governor is the best way of disgracing McGarrett is also credible.

The installment also gives lots for Danny, Kono, and Chin to do and weaves in lots of local shots of the HPD, interiors of the Iolani Palace, and footage of the annual Kamahamaha Parade. Perhaps the only thing I wanted a little more of was details of Cameron's final plot, he disappears from the action before his real identity is even discovered.

No matter, this is one of the top-notch episodes when it comes to excitement, mystery, believable police work, and a tense conclusion with a Hawaiian flavor to it. One of the good ones.moreless
