  • While not a classic in terms of a dangerous scenario, a nice light-hearted turn for the series.

    7.0
Danny's Aunt Clara seems to be embroiled in criminal doings, including murder.

This installment has lots of fun things - Helen Hayes is a ton of fun to watch and James MacArthur (Haye's real-life adopted son) is good as the suffering nephew. The Danny Williams character is much better here than when he is tossed into extreme emotion, his lines flow naturally and he seems far more "at home" in situations like this. Good pace for an hour, a classic set-up, a mystery murder, the main witness to the events seems to be exaggerating, the events prove to be sinister, and the good guys move in to put a stop to it.

Perhaps my favorite device is the set-up of Hayes (Aunt Clara) as initially helpless, then as a thorn in McGarrett's side (as too paranoid), and finally, as a deft accomplice to trapping and nailing the corrupt and moral-less nursing home. The acting is slick and well-paced, consistently moving the plot along. Hardly a minute goes by without paying some attention to the scene at hand. It is also fairly rare for the series that McGarrett changes his mind and takes a threat more seriously than he had initially. All because of the "grand lady of theater" - just having Helen Hayes on hand makes the writers stretch out their wings a little.moreless
