  • A back-to-basics episode with a good hook and excellent actors.

    7.7
McGarrett must do some serious tracking and sluething to piece together a story of an old kidnapping and stop a crime that has yet to be committed.

A nice standard case for "Five-O" with good character roles, a double-cross, and clues that make sense at the right time. Also features some outstanding and familiar character actors from the 60s and 70s. McGarrett not only must track down a dying man who has been shot by his co-conspirator in a years-old old kidnapping/murder caper, but he has to do some good detective work at an apartment, at a bar, as well as trace the source of 10 dollar silver certificates (currency that looks like standard money but has distinctive local markings and was common in the 40s-60s). If there was a real "Five-O", this is the kind of case I can see them handling.

And it wouldn't be a good "Hawaii Five-O" entry without McGarrett barking out an order to accomplish at least one really onerous task - in this case, "Kono, call every bank on Oahu and find out if anyone has deposited a ten dollar silver certificate". In the meantime the plot is brisk, there's a woman with a heart of gold who has fallen for a guy with a past, and a crabby Madlyne Rhue who is itching to spend money that has been "on ice" for six long years.

    A pretty good one here.moreless
  • McGarrett and crew unravel an old kidnapping and find some hot money.

    7.0
A "nameless Rummy" in a flophouse is found by those he worked with in the past on a kidnapping and the money, even after six years, "Has a temperature." McGarrett and crew put the pieces together by finding the down-and-outer, shot by one of his former associates, and coaxing some information from him. This ties into a kidnapping of a former Governor and $500K in $10 Silver Certificates to chase down.

Hot car alert of the week: '69 or '70 white Mustang convertible.

Hot car alert of the week (2): another convertible, either a Fairlane or Galaxie. I didn't know they were made.

This is a solid episode and good story.moreless
