  • McGarrett faces a master criminal who has little respect for the law as he leads 5-O on a wild goose chase.

Hawaii scenery/landmarks: The First Hawaiian Bank building on King Street, with its white pillars with gold dragons wrapped around them. Hotel Street serves as a street in Hong Kong, even though actual footage of Hong Kong is shown in the previous scene. And there's Kawaihoa Point in the background as McGarrett questions Nomuru. That same beachfront property is getting a lot of mileage in this series - 2nd only to Iolani Palace!

Notable stars: William Windom plays the bank robbing, associate killing, law enforcement loathing Ossie Connors. Windom is in regular syndication as Commodore Decker in the Star Trek episode called the Doomsday Machine, where a giant log shaped planet eating machine tries to swallow the Enterprise. Jackie Coogan plays Jerry Howe, the underhanded informant. Coogan is more well known as Uncle Fester from the Addams Family TV series. Fred Ball, who was popularly known as the magician called Professor Fun in Hawaii, gets to play a bank customer. A longtime friend of the family, I spotted him in his red aloha shirt, bald head and glasses as he walked into the bank in a far shot, then back towards the entrance past the tellers in a closer inside shot, then later walking in the door again on a medium shot. Did he forget his money?

Ossie Connors sets up McGarrett and company by having them stake out the First Hawaiian Bank after being falsely informed of the robber's target. Meanwhile, Connors robs Nomuru's foreign currency exchange with the assistance of Nomuru himself, whose wife is being held hostage at his home. The ruthless Connors likes to leave a steady stream of dead former associates to cover his trail. The day after 5-O gets outsmarted, Danno grabs a newspaper with an editorial cartoon on the front page that reads "Which way did they go, McGarrett?" The uniformed guard in Hong Kong gets wacked on the head with a bag of money, then later very timidly takes Connors away after McGarrett places the crook under arrest. This guard is definitely qualified to work for the bumbling Hayes Security in Hawaii!moreless

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • After McGarrett receives the call that a car was found in the water, he misses the cradle when he hangs up the phone, makes a slight attempt to place it correctly but then leaves it hanging off the hook.

    • During the final Hong Kong scene, a shot of Connors (played by William Windom) is shown reversed. The writing on the wall is backwards. A few seconds later another shot is shown normally.

    • While discussing Howe's death with McGarrett, the coroner points to the back of the skull and states that the bullet entered the lower mandible. "Mandible" refers to the jaw, which is located at the front of the skull. More specifically, when referring to humans, the term "mandible" denotes to the lower jaw. The term "lower mandible" is not used to describe human anatomy.
