It's amazing how this show, as well as others of this ilk, will pay obscene amounts of money to the actors/actresses but apparently they will not budget for a decent medical consultant. As an example, in the latest show, a person having a bowel operation to remove a 'displaced object' is shown in position on the operating table with his belly open and yet, when the camera pans to the head of the table, what do you see but the anesthesiologist sitting there with NO SURGICAL MASK!!! As a retired anesthesiologist I can assure you that this would NEVER be allowed in any reputable operating room. Once the sterile instruments are laid out on the back tables, regardless of whether the patient has been brought into the room, the room is considered sterile and everyone entering the room from that point on is required to wear a surgical mask. Any medical consultant who does not recognize this and advise that this is not in keeping with normal operating room procedure obviously does not have the slightest idea as to what goes on inside a modern day operating room. May I suggest that the creators of this program budget for a decent medical consultant, one who is current in operating room procedure and willing to speak up when 'face time' for an actor is being used as a reason to disregard normal procedures.
