This is the first time I have ever watched Hazel, I found it on a weird channel that shows old programs, but I am glad I stayed and watched as this was a fun episode. Not overly funny, but it was a nice well-written story here today with the 16 year old new neighbor falling for Mrs. Baxter (who is bad by the way, so I could see his point.) Hazel herself was not very funny, but I have rarely enjoyed the maid or butler on a program, outside of Geoffrey from Fresh Prince and Alice from The Brady Bunch.

I might check out more episodes of this as 50 years since it aired this show holds up pretty well. Even the kid was funny, a rarity in any TV age.moreless
  • The theme is familiar but the execution works pretty well for a standard situation comedy.

When mysterious new neighbors move in, the key to the new relationship seems to be the son's huge crush on Dorothy.

This could have been a throw away episode, typical in the category of the hopeless obsession of a teen with an unobtainable adult woman, but the staging here makes it worth more laughs than expected.

The filming of Whitney Blake in this installment is well done, almost all aspects of her approaching the neighbors' new home emphasize her comeliness and the expressions on the son's face (as he peers through the curtains) make it deserving of its laugh track. So, the misunderstandings have a good basis in story, although Hazel's well-intentioned advice for the boy to express his feelings leads to one of those scenes that make all of us uncomfortable with embarassment.

Some of the best episodes of "Hazel" focus on the characters outside of the Baxter household, and this is one of those that takes a familiar scenario and makes it more memorable than it could have been.moreless
