  • The magic bullet

It's becoming evident where Heat Guy J's strengths lie as a series, and it has nothing to do with our main protagonists. Vampire Leonelli really adds such a sinister layer to the show that when he volunteers to participate in a game of russian roulette (that's broadcast on live TV) the only shocking thing about that scenario is that he manages to compose himself and pull back on the maniacal laughter he loves so much. We're also introduced to a new character, an ex-con with a wolf-life face who is looking for someone called Bunny. He provides plenty of action scenes and his attacks are rather mystical in appearance, but we're told that he just has access to advance technology. (Androids roam about and people kill themselves on TV, who am I to argue?) I think I'm having a hard time connecting with Daisuka because he doesn't strike me as a lead character, his look is also all wrong. But that's neither here nor there since this was another decent episode overall with a lot to recommend.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Claire: You don't play if you can't pay, asshole!
(knocks the poet to the floor)
And another thing: Your poetry sucks! Don't pretend to be an arteest if you don't have any talent. That really pisses me off. Guess you figured that out, huh?

    • Boma: I have no wish to harm such a skilled and talented warrior, so If you leave now, I will spare your life.
      Daisuke: I'm not going anywhere.
Boma: Why are you so concerned about a machine?
Daisuke: 'Cause this machine's my partner.
Boma: You don't think this android...could ever betray you?
Daisuke: Whether he could or not doesn't matter. Androids can be friends or enemies. It depends on how they're programmed. My partner's program allows him to make spontaneous decisions based on his own judgement. I never know what he's going to do next, which makes things a whole lot more interesting.
      Boma: And why is that?
Daisuke: Because it's confusing, chaotic, and unpredictable. Just like humans.
(Steam starts to blow out of J, as he begins rebooting)
Daisuke: Looks like Mr. Unpredictable's staging a comeback.

  • NOTES (1)

    • Boma: You've got some good moves for an unaltered human.
Daisuke: My grandpa started training me when I was a little kid.

Daisuke's grandpa plays a very important role in the series. However, his identity is not mentioned until episode 24, "ALTERATION".
