Ivy: Doctor, what's your opinion of this electrical chair?
Coogan: Well, it's a handsome piece of furniture but I can't say I'd want it in my front parlor.
Ivy: Do you think it's a humane form of execution?
Coogan: I guess the people who could answer that aren't talkin'.
Stamp: What are you doing playing poker this time of day?
Hec: Just amplifying my very small income.
Hec: Folks around here have seen a hangin' but they have never seen an electrocution.
Durham: I guess you can't stop progress.
Coogan (about Durham): He's just a man, Billy. Finer than a few. Mangier than most.
Hec: This thing is drawin' suspects like flies to a dead horse.
Hec (about the killer's letter): Nobody can spell that bad except a smart man on purpose.
Durham (to Billy): Always do what you're paid to do. No more, no less.
Durham (to Billy): Waitin' around to die makes a man hungry.
Hec: I'm too old a dog to learn any new tricks.
Ivy: If the old dog is taught right in the first place he doesn't need to learn any new tricks.
Hec: Why are you so hellbent on me havin' company?
Stamp: Hangover from my school teaching days. I always had a soft spot in my heart for the dumbest kid in class.
Durham (to Hec): I don't know who's out there helpin' me but I sure like his style.
