Episode Summary

The chefs split into teams of men and women and immediately set to cooking their signature dishes. Ramsay is appalled by a number of the dishes, but, surprisingly, finds a large number to his liking. One chef is chastised for trying to give him a lesson in manners. The two teams select team names and prep for the first dinner service, but one chef on the Red Team annoys her teammates when she suffers a breakdown and threatens to quit. During dinner service, the chefs struggle through a power outage and two of the chefs try their hand at being waiters. A disastrous dinner service leads Chef Ramsay to select the losing team based on the performance of their waiter. Ultimately, one chef is unable to recover from a critical mistake and is sent packing.

  • The start of a new season.

Lacey is one lazy person, who quits before the cooking even starts. She needs to be eliminated soon, she's not gonna much further any way. Colleen should be legally obligated to refund everyone she scammed 300 dollars out of. I can believe she gave Ramsay back talk about manners and made to the end of the show, without being eliminated. She can't seem to do anything right.

Giovanni definitely should not be a waiter. 90% below average rating from customers is pretty bad. He needs to take some lessons from Carol.

Based on cooking skills the right person was eliminated from the guys team.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (1)

    • Best of the Worst: Nobody

Losing Team / Nominees for Elimination: Both teams were rated as equally weak for their kitchen performance. As such, Chef Ramsay determined the losing team based on the performance of the teams' two waiters: Carol and Giovanni. Carol was rated as above average by 88% of her customers, whereas Giovanni was rated below average by 90% of his customers. As a group, the men nominated Seth for elimination. Wil nominated himself, admitting to poor performance on the garnish station.

      Eliminated: Wil

  • QUOTES (15)

    • Chef Ramsay: You seriously charge $300 to teach people how to make that crap?
      Colleen: Yes chef.
Chef Ramsay: Feel like I need some plastic wrap on my ass.
Colleen: I teach manners too, chef.
Chef Ramsay: Say again?! Okay, please, Miss Manners, **** off back in line!

    • Chef Ramsay: I found it quite strange that Wil didn't even have the will to succeed. He clearly didn't belong in Hell's Kitchen.

    • Wil: I took a risk nominating myself. I ****ed up tonight, plain and simple. Striking out the first time up at bat is very, very demoralizing. I feel very humbled right now.

    • Wil: Plain and simple, I ****ed up, without a doubt. End of story. I nominate myself.

    • Chef Ramsay: Charlie's on the garnish, Robert's on the garnish and Wil's on planet cuckoo.

    • Chef Ramsay: Wil.
      Wil: Yes, Chef?
      Chef Ramsay: You're ****.
      Wil: Yes, Chef, I am.
Chef Ramsay: You are so ****, it's unbelievable.

    • Colleen: We have no more pans, Chef.
      Chef Ramsay: Look. Pan.
      Colleen: Thank you, Chef.
Chef Ramsay: Pan. Pan. You were going to start fresh spaghetti in a dirty pan. Holy crap.

    • Customer: (when there is a power outage during service) So there's no backup generator?
Jean Philippe: Are you an engineer?
      Customer: No.
Jean Philippe: Because we could use a very good one, now.

    • Colleen: (in an interview segment) Power went out and I couldn't focus on food. I was just all, you know, trying to put myself in a happy place.

    • LA: Lacey quit today when she walked out of the kitchen. We could have somebody here that could be an asset to our team and instead we got an ass.

    • Lacey: Are you serious?
Andrea: (in an interview segment) Lacey's definitely not solid.
Lacey: What the hell am I supposed to do?
Andrea: She's not even close to ready for this.
Lacey: Does anybody have any ideas?

    • Danny: (in an interview segment) Ramsay's definitely just looking for a rise out of me, which he's going to eventually get.
Chef Ramsay: So the idea came from where?
Danny: I just pulled it out of my ass, sir.
Chef Ramsay: Put it back in there, 'cause it sucks.

    • Chef Ramsay: In terms of flavor, yeah, spot on.
Carol: Thank you, Chef. (in an interview segment) To have the greatest chef in the entire world say my food is good, I just wanted to dance, I wanted to sing.

    • Lacey: (in an interview segment) People will probably look at me and be, 'Oh, here's another pretty girl trying to be a cook,' but I am a hard worker and I can hang with the big boys.

    • Danny: (in an interview segment) I will dwarf everyone and make them look like they are nothing compared to me, the god of cooking.

  • NOTES (3)

    • Chef Ramsay: Hey, Forrest, come here, you.
Seth: (in an interview segment) Ramsay keeps calling me Forrest, as in Forrest Gump.
I think it's a great name. Forrest Gump was a 1994 film featuring Tom Hanks in the title role, based on the novel by Winston Groom. Gump was said to be mentally slow, but accidentally present at many historic moments.

    • Chef Ramsay: Okay, boys, team name.
      Blue Team: The Blues Brothers.
      Chef Ramsay: I like that.

The Blues Brothers is the name of a band created by Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi for the program Saturday Night Live. The band grew and become the basis of a film by the same name. To date, the band continues to perform.
