Episode Summary

The remaining chefs are tasked with a challenge requiring them to create dishes using the classic mother sauces. When the challenge ends in a tie, the result rests on one dish. The winning team is treated to a day at an English pub, while the losers are made to clean out the Hell's Kitchen ovens and then prep both kitchens for service. Chef Ramsay surprises the teams by announcing that Hell's Kitchen is a having a family night with a kids' menu. Both teams struggle with the service, but one delivers a disastrously bad performance and is kicked out, leaving Chef Ramsay and his sous chefs to complete it. It leads up to the elimination of one chef who seemed to have a great over-inflated opinion of their strengths.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Goof: In the "previously on..." section of the episode the narrator says the blue team cooked first, but in the previous episode the blue cooked second. Either the narrator got it wrong, or they aired it out of order.

    • Team Change: Following the elimination, Benjamin was switched from the Blue Team to the Red Team.

    • Rewards Challenge: The challenge in this episode was for each team to create five dishes, each representing one of the "mother sauces" -- Hollandaise, tomato, Bechamel, veloute and demi-glace. They had thirty minutes and twenty ingredients, none of which could be repeated.

Reward / Punishment: This challenge actually ended in a tie, which left it to Chef Ramsay's decision to break it. He awarded the victory to the Blue Team on the strength of Jason's dish, which lost to Nilka's, but would have won against any of the others. For winning, the Blue Team got to pay a visit to Ye Olde King's Head, a British pub, and drink beer with Chef Ramsay and the pub's owner. They were also all awarded a set of Demeyere Cookware pots and pans. For losing, the Red Team was made to clean the Hell's Kitchen ovens, then prep both kitchens for service, which was being held that evening.

    • Nominees for Elimination: The Red Team lost, having been kicked out of the kitchen during service, leaving Chef Ramsay and sous chefs Scott & Andi to complete their section. They were told to come to a consensus on two chefs to nominate for elimination. Chef Ramsay asked Fran for the nominations and she said that Scott was nominated for totally falling apart since coming over to the Red Team, having two bad services and just doing a lot of talking but not delivering. She said that she was the second nominee, but she wasn't really sure why. In the end, Chef Ramsay asked Scott, Fran and Siobhan to step forward.

      Eliminated: Scott.

  • QUOTES (6)

    • Chef Ramsay: If Scott could cook as well as he talks, he'd be the winner of Hell's Kitchen. Unfortunately for him, he can't.

    • Scott: (in his exit interview) I certainly am the best cook on the Red Team, but when you're working with teammates that aren't as qualified to be there as you are, it makes it hard. But at the end of the day, I'm still going to go on and continue to be a great chef.

    • Chef Ramsay: (regarding the Red Team's performance) This is shambolic. It's a disaster.

    • Benjamin: The Red Team's all a bunch of losers. And it's, like, you smell blood and it's, like, we have to kill it. So I wanna finish service really strong and kill the Red Team.

    • Fran: (in an interview segment) Scott's not as good as he perceives to be. It's, like, so annoying.

    • Nilka: I'm tired of punishment. I don't deserve punishments. Can't take it. Ow! I really, really can't.
