Episode Summary

The chefs are presented with a challenge that requires them to cook eggs four different ways. During the challenge, one chef is told to work alone, but gets in trouble for getting help. The winners of the challenge are sent on a helicopter tour of Los Angeles followed by a champagne afterglow, while the losers are made to unload and then gut and fillet a large tuna. At dinner service, two chefs are assigned to serve tuna tartare tableside while the remainder struggle through another challenging service. One chef proves unequal and is kicked out of the kitchen, then makes a decision of their own. Chef Ramsay provides a shock at the evening's elimination when he finds himself unsatisfied with the choices made as to which chefs were nominated for elimination.

  • All in all the show is very entertaining, but like the chef said I don't see anyone yet that can run a kitchen.

As for the elimination It was BULL****. Two people were choosen and one of them should have been eliminated. Ramsey was wrong and I guess he can just change the rules when he wants. He already knows who he is going to pick to run his restaurant. You watch and see if it is not one of the two who were let back after being choosen for elimination. As for the guy who walked out In a way I don't blame him as he was humiliated in front of customers which is not professional on Ramsey's part, but he should have went back in.moreless
  • Average episode...Another bad chef out. Jay, Ed, Scott are the main favorites.

Glad to see Mickey gone...This shows Ramsey is making the teams stronger, and is patient with the good cooks....During the last seasons he did kicked a few really insane skilled cooks because they messed up a one night...Now he saved Jason...I thought he would go, because my perception is Ramsey has set his expectation according to the experience of each cook...He would soon rather kick an Executive Chef then a Line Cook...Automn was annoying and showed her experience, I don't understand why the girls didn't said she was the worse.Made some basic mistakes...

On a brighter note, Ramsay hasn't decided who will win, because he is still testing them...Even the best cook in there, if he breaks he's out...There were cases before to be honest...But there is a group of 5-6 really skilled chefs-at a glance Ed, Siobhan, Jay, Scott, Maria...I am sure in a 3-4episodes, it will be breath taking to watch it.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Rewards Challenge: The chefs were woken up at 5 A.M. and asked who was ready to fight back. They were presented with a challenge called Eggs Four Ways in which they were told to split into pairs, with each pairing having just five minutes cook eggs in four different ways-- poached, soft-boiled, sunny side up and scrambled. Since the Red Team had an odd number of members, Chef Ramsay asked Siobhan to cook alone.

Reward / Punishment: The Blue Team won this challenge, with a final score of 11-10. Siobhan did not follow Chef Ramsay's request and had help from Autumn in cooking her eggs. As such, all eggs that were supposed to be cooked by Autumn and weren't were disqualified. For winning, the Blue Team received a helicopter tour of Los Angeles, followed by champagne with Chef Ramsay. For losing, the Red Team was forced to unload a shipment of tuna, then clean, fillet and gut it.

    • Nominees for Elimination: Despite Andrew's quitting during service, there was still an elimination at the end of the episode. The Red Team nominated Autumn for over-salting the water at the start of service, as well as not being a team player and overpowering the other chefs. The Blue Team nominated Jason for not being a team player, making it difficult to work with him.

Eliminated: Neither. Chef Ramsay questioned the Red Team's reasons for nominating Autumn and asked if she was really the worst chef. They were forced to admit that she was not and then put up Jamie in her place. After both Jamie and Jason gave their reasons why they should stay, Chef Ramsay called Mikey out of the line for the Blue Team and told him to take off his jacket, noting that it was the second service in a row where Mikey's poor performance held up the Blue Team.

    • Quit During Service: Andrew. Chef Ramsay kicked him out of the service for talking back after he criticized him for his poor performance on the garnish station. He did not tell him to take off his jacket, but Andrew decided to simply quit the show rather than either try to fight to stay or go back to the dorms.

  • QUOTES (12)

    • Chef Ramsay: Mikey was all about appearances. Unfortunately for him, it didn't appear he could cook.

    • Mikey: (in his exit interview) Chef Ramsay really didn't like my performance. I knew I did crappy, but I still got my tattoo of Hell's Kitchen and I wear it with pride.

    • Mikey: (in an interview segment, regarding not being nominated for elimination) Honestly, I-- I was really surprised that nobody said me, but they didn't, so...

    • Jason: (in an interview segment) Andrew? I don't know what happened to that cat. Chef Ramsay hit his ass with some fairy dust and made his ass disappear.

    • Andrew: I don't-- I don't really care what Chef Ramsay thinks of me. I'm done. Have a nice day.

    • Chef Ramsay: You think this is funny, don't you?
Andrew: No, I don't think this is funny.
Chef Ramsay: So we're serving liquid **** mashed potatoes. So I expect you to **** put that fresh stuff in a pan and add the liquid to it. That's not going to make any ounce of difference there. It's gone.
      Andrew: That's not true.
Jason: (in an interview segment) Man, this guy, damn. He's **** crazy.

    • Chef Ramsay: Uh... Blue Jay?
      Jay: Yes, Chef?
Chef Ramsay: (referring to Salvatore) Run upstairs and get Bozo for me, please.
      Jay: Oui, Chef.

    • (Chef Ramsay asks Salvatore to name the desserts, but Salvatore is speechless)
Chef Ramsay: If you don't know the menu inside and out by now, you should not be here. I'm running a kitchen, not a ****ing kindergarten. Get out of here!

    • Autumn: (in an interview segment) Siobhan doesn't have the knowledge that she needs. If you're gonna be the chef at the Savoy, who are you gonna ask how to make mashed potatoes?

    • Salvatore: I would love to be married with someone that cares.
Chef Ramsay: How many ladies have you slept with?
      Salvatore: I don't know.

    • (Chef Ramsay berates Siobhan for not working on her own during the Eggs Four Ways challenge)
Chef Ramsay: One simple instruction. How can I make it any more **** clear than that?
Siobhan: (regarding Autumn) I should have pushed her out of the way (voice breaking) and I'm so mad at myself that I didn't. I'm so mad.

    • Chef Ramsay: (introducing the "Eggs Four Ways" challenge) Who's ready to fight back?

  • NOTES (2)

    • The narrator mentions that Andrew is just the second person to walk out mid-service. The other was Dewberry in the second episode of season one. Unlike Andrew, Dewberry came back to complete the service.
