Episode Summary

Chef Ramsay introduces himself to the 16 new contestants by announcing that they are expected to complete their very first dinner service. He then divides them into two teams, men vs. women, and sends them to the kitchen to prepare their signature dishes. The chefs present the dishes as part of the first challenge between the Red Team and the Blue Team. Several chefs impress Ramsay with their dishes, while others simply fall flat or even shock Chef Ramsay. The losing team is made to provide breakfast in bed for the winners the next morning. Trying to give the chefs some extra guidance to fulfill his guarantee of a completed service, Ramsay gives the chefs a series of late-night video lessons. Despite this, the first dinner service is a struggle, with several chefs being kicked out of the kitchen and Ramsay resorting to drastic measures.

    I enjoy this show a lot...sometimes...mostly this guy screaming for the most unimportant reason is starting to be annoying...OK i get it, minimize your mistakes, but he ain't helping with the attitude.Gordon tries to be fair and sometimes he's succeeding, sometimes he isn't. Such as the elimination..Fran should have gone, especially after the mistake she made between Crab and Lobster. OK I am the last person to judge, since I am not a cook, but she is, so the mistake is huge for her.

    Good side was seeing them complete a first night with half the team.There were some really incredible cooks, such as Jason, Ed or Siobhan.This will make the screaming more frequent in the first few episodes thus more enjoyable.

    See, what people who come don't understand, is this is a show for masters, artists. My perception is, Gordon is the type of teacher that can help you, in the sense that if your a 7 Cook he can make you be a 10, but if your a 3-4 cook he cant make you become one to 6-7...He has very little patience, and he's practically unworkable with...if your junior level, hes senior partner level...no understanding whatsoever.

    But a lot of really impressive players, so should be a treat now with Survivor on hold.moreless
  • Chef Ramsey is cool as ever, the chefs though are pretty disappointing...

    Then again, at this stage of the series they always are. It looks like this is going to be another good season of Hells Kitchen. A ton of anger, frustration and tension early on, just how I like it. I haven't really seen a Chef that I can stand behind yet, Ed seems promising but Salvatore just got plain lucky, he's a huge moron. On the girls side, Autumn seems like she's going to be a great antagonizer on the show and Fran should seriously just shut up and stop whining, especially if you don't know how many legs a lobster has! The right person left first and I have a feeling this season is going to be another agonizing season for Chef Ramsey, which for me is just perfect.moreless

    • Rewards Challenge: For the second time, the premiere episode's rewards challenge was the creation of the signature dishes. Each chef had just 45 minutes to prepare their signature dishes. Once again, the Red Team and Blue Team were pitted head-to-head for this challenge, though Chef Ramsay could choose to award a point to neither or both chefs in each face-off.

      Reward / Punishment: The Blue Team won this challenge, beating the Red Team 4-2. For winning, the Blue Team was served by breakfast in bed the next morning by the Red Team, whose punishment was to get up early and cook it.

    • Nominees for Elimination: The Red Team lost this dinner service, as Chef Ramsay felt that they were weak throughout the night. For losing, they were told to nominate two chefs for elimination. Stacey was nominated for a bad start to the service and getting sent upstairs and Fran, also for getting sent upstairs and confusing lobster and crab.

    • The red team's sous chef once again changes. This is the fourth sous chef for the red team. Season's 1-3 were Mary-Anne, seasons 4-5 were Gloria, season 6 was season 2 winner Heather, and now it is Andi.

    • For the first time ever the sous chefs and JP are in the opening credits. They all appear as small flying creatures. Scott appears with Andrew poking him in the butt, while Andi and JP show up with Jaime.
