    Danny and Paula go head-to-head to determine who will the fifth season of Hell's Kitchen. Paula tries to get Lacey straightened out, while Danny discovers that Giovanni has a chip on his shoulder following his dramatic elimination from Hell's Kitchen. Chef Ramsay evaluates the design of the two finalists' restaurants, Sunergy and Velvet Hammer, and finds them both up to snuff. He also gives them both suggestions on their menus. During the evening's dinner service, both have their struggles, but both complete a strong service. Chef Ramsay is left with a very tough decision, saying that it was the best final dinner service and he honestly means it. Ultimately, one of the two is crowned the winner of the fifth season of Hell's Kitchen.

    The final two chefs prepare for their ultimate challenge. They must design their restaurants as well as create a winning menu. With everything on the line, Chef Ramsay sends them to the Borgata Hotel, Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, giving them each two advisers to take care of things in their absence. At Borgata, they meet with the C.O.O. and take part in a challenge to determine who will have first pick of the brigade. Back at Hell's Kitchen, they examine their restaurants and make their choices for the team that will aid them during the final dinner service.

    Before heading back up to the dorms for the evening, the remaining chefs are presented with a surprise-- their friends and family. Re-energized by the surprise, they head into the next day's challenge with renewed confidence and are given 90 minutes to prepare 100 portions each of a dish of their choice for a group of 100 mystery guests. The guests turn out to be 100 chefs and one of the aspiring chefs receives glowing ratings, while another is humbled when their dish is heavily panned. The winning chef is sent off for a makeover and appears the next day with Chef Ramsay on Good Day Live. The two losing chefs endure cleaning and laundering. During the service, each of the chefs is given a chance at running the pass. All experience highs and lows, but all three put in an overall strong service. Chef Ramsay is left with a tough choice in deciding the final two.

    The chef's taste buds are put to the test when Chef Ramsay prepares three dishes for them to try. They are then given thirty minutes to prepare just one of the dishes, the fish stew, identifying the ingredients only by taste. The winner enjoys an afternoon with Ramsay, taking an amazing ride in a bi-plane. The losing chefs are punished with polishing crystal and cutlery, cleaning the carpets and prepping for the evening's service. During the dinner service Chef Ramsay tells them they need make it all the way through not only for themselves, but for one of their guests, who plans to propose to girlfriend during the dessert course. Two chefs rise to the challenge, but two struggle throughout the night. One is ultimately eliminated and then Chef Ramsay announces a surprise, to be revealed in the next episode.

    After having shut down Hell's Kitchen, Chef Ramsay sends the remaining chefs off to New Jersey to dine in the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa, where one of them will be running a restaurant, hoping to inspire them by showing them the level of success that they can have. They meet with the hotel's top staff and enjoy a tour and the fine dining, but one chef's fun is cut short by a medical emergency. That chef proves unable to continue in the competition, turning the final five into the final four. Chef Ramsay challenges these remaining chefs to each create a signature dish that they would serve at the Borgata Hotel. The winning chef receives a free pass, making them safe from the next elimination, but both that chef and Chef Ramsay may come to regret it. The next evening, the chefs cook for a fully booked kitchen, but all of them and two in particular, struggle mightily, leading one to briefly kicked out. Though all diners are served, the service is rather a disappointment, leaving Chef Ramsay with a tough decision.

    The six remaining chefs are unified into a single team. For their first individual challenge, they are told to make a fantastic dish using 14 distinct ingredients. The winning chef and one other spend a day touring San Francisco, while the remaining chefs are put through the punishment of delivery day. For the evening's service, Chef Ramsay sends the chefs in with high expectations, which they utterly fail to live up to. One chef is briefly tossed out of the kitchen, while another back-talks Chef Ramsay and then makes a mistake that causes another to endure a serious burn. Following the evening's elimination, Chef Ramsay does some serious deliberating and then calls the chefs into the kitchen at 2:14 A.M. for a shocking announcement.

    Each team member is asked to create a dish using King Crab, but only one dish can be selected to represent them in front of Chef Ramsay. Ramsay, however, finds himself unimpressed by both dishes presented to him and ends up basing his judgment on two other dishes. The winning team is rewarded with a lobster lunch and day at the beach, while the losing team is subjected to cleaning out the dorms and prepping crab for the next day's dinner service. Both teams are given the opportunity to create their own menu for service and both end up creating similar menus. Botch also botch the service, causing Chef Ramsay to shut things down before a full service can be completed. He asks one chef from the losing team to nominate another for elimination, but then surprises everyone by eliminating a chef that was not on the losing team.

    Chef Ramsay challenges the team's palates in a blind taste testing. In a close result, one team wins a glamorous photo shoot, while the other is forced to serve the winners lunch and prep both kitchens for the evening's service. In a packed dinner service, anxiety is higher than usual when celebrities Eric McCormack and Robert Patrick stop by. The meat station is the downfall for one chef, who is sent home during service. The elimination of this chef seems to have a positive effect on their team, leading them to rally and complete a full service. The losing team struggles to even decide whom they want to nominate to go home.

    Chef Ramsay challenges the teams to create delicious tapas style, or small portioned, dishes out of left-overs. Both teams put in a valiant effort, with Chef Ramsay declaring it the "closest ever." The winning team is sent to enjoy a day at the races, while the losing team completes prep for both kitchens. During this grueling punishment, one chef earns their team's wrath by having to be babysat and threatening to quit. At that evening's dinner service, one chef messes up so badly that they are sent home in mid-service. Another doesn't fare much better, but manages to barely avoid elimination.

    Both teams are asked to create enhanced versions of the favorite foods of a boy who is having his bar mitzvah at Hell's Kitchen. The winning team is sent off for a day of spa relaxation, while the losing team is forced to spend the day decorating the dining room with a party planner seen on the program in the past. The planner and Jean Philippe come into conflict as J.P. becomes increasingly frustrated with the planner's interfering behavior. A feud erupts between two chefs on the Red Team, creating tension that begins at the challenge and continues throughout the next day's service. Though the teams continue to have their difficulties, both give their best service yet. When it comes to the day's elimination, some chefs pull a risky move that ends up backfiring for one chef.

    As the Blue Team tries their best to make do with Lacey, the Red Team celebrates no longer having her on the team. The chefs are sent to an Asian market, where they buy ingredients for an Asian fusion challenge. The winning team enjoys a day of Asian-themed treats, while the losing team faces an Asian-themed punishment. Come dinner service, both teams are surprised when one of the winning dishes from the challenge is added to the menu. The dinner service begins smoothly, but quickly turns into a calamity. In a repeat of the previous week, Chef Ramsay declares both of the teams to be losers. Then, at the eliminations, he makes a surprising elimination that shows that nobody is safe at any time.

    With both teams struggling at working together, Gordon Ramsay thrusts them into a challenge that directly tests their teamwork. He has them serve breakfast to a group of 100 young kids. A close challenge ends with one team suffering the punishment of cleaning the entire kitchen and doing all the day's prep, while the other enjoys a day of pampering. The kitchen opens for service that evening, but both teams put in a disastrous performance. In a first, Chef Ramsay declares both teams to be losers and has them each nominate two chefs for elimination.

    The 14 remaining chefs are sent out to a meat locker to learn about various cuts of meat. Upon returning to Hell's Kitchen, they participate in a challenge requiring them to both identifying various cuts of meat and where they come from on a cow. The winning team is sent off by private jet for a wine-tasting, while the losing team is forced to butcher meat for use the next day. The teams take part in a two-part steakhouse dinner service that requires them to both take a turn waiting in the dining room and cooking in the kitchen. One chef's overall poor performance at both waiting and in the kitchen gets that contestant sent home.

    Following the disaster of the previous night's dinner service, the aspiring chefs are presented with what they wasted from the night before, but dodge the bullet thanks to the arrival of some fresh scallops. The Blue Team and Red Team compete in a challenge to properly shuck as many scallops as possible. In an extremely close finish, the Blue Team takes the prize. They win a day trip by helicopter to Catalina Island, but one chef is forced to travel by ferry due to his weight and ends up missing out on the reward. The Red Team endures the punishment of spending the day setting up a "raw bar" for dinner service, but one chef irritates the others by sitting out the punishment due to exhaustion. Just before the evening's dinner service, a chef endures a grueling ankle injury, but makes the decision to tough out the service. Despite a number of snags, both kitchens complete a successful service, with the winning team being the one that finished first. Two members of the losing team are nominated for elimination due to their poor attitude and lousy performance, but are given a reprieve due to a surprise announcement.

    The chefs split into teams of men and women and immediately set to cooking their signature dishes. Ramsay is appalled by a number of the dishes, but, surprisingly, finds a large number to his liking. One chef is chastised for trying to give him a lesson in manners. The two teams select team names and prep for the first dinner service, but one chef on the Red Team annoys her teammates when she suffers a breakdown and threatens to quit. During dinner service, the chefs struggle through a power outage and two of the chefs try their hand at being waiters. A disastrous dinner service leads Chef Ramsay to select the losing team based on the performance of their waiter. Ultimately, one chef is unable to recover from a critical mistake and is sent packing.
