Incognito makes several references to Set (sometimes spelled Seth). Set, a deity in the pantheose of pre-Helenistic Egypt, was the primary deity of the ancient Egyptian concept of hell. According to ancient Egyptian mythology, Set murdered his brother Osiris in an attempt of gain supremesy of the Underworld. Osiris was said to be resurrected and later cast Set into the Egyptian desert, away from the life-giving Nile.
Alucard quotes the 19th century German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche when he says "that which does not kill you makes you strong". Nietzsche's original quote is "That which does not kill you makes you stronger."
Alucard is believed to be 567 years old.
Alucard in this episode says that his name is a bit of an enigma. His name is Dracula spelled backwards and is one of several hints in the series and manga that he is Vlad Dracula, also known as Vlad the Impaler.
In this episode Seras meets Helena, a child who was made into a vampire long ago.
Alucard's gun, The 13mm Jackal weighs 35 lbs. It is basically a hand-cannon.
The term Paladin has it's roots in Latin - Palatine Hill was the site of the Imperial Roman palace. In in the final centuries of the Roman Empire, Palatines were court officials and advisors to the Roman Emperor. By the middles ages into the post Renaissance, the word became Paladin in English and German. A Paladin, during this point in European history, was a social rank - often symbolic - denoting direct service to the King. In the case of this episode, I speculate that the rank of Paladin implices direct serves to the Vatican administration.
Paladin Alexander Anderson is based on actor Edward Van Sloan who played Prof. Abraham Van Helsing in Dracula.
The handgun that Alucard uses is entirely fictional. The .454 Casull is available only in large frame revolvers. The model 1911A frame used by Alucard is currently chambered only for the .45 ACP. In the late 1980s, Colt Arms manufactured a model 1911A in the 10mm, but it was a complete failure because the 10mm proved to be too powerful a round for the model 1911A. The .454 Casull has a ballistic energy coefficient 4 times higher than the 10mm, and about 5.5 times higher than the .45 ACP. A model 1911A would be blown to pieces if ever chambered for the .454 Casull. Most indoor target ranges prohibit the use of a .454 because it is too powerful of a round and will damage the range equipment.
Alucard is dracula spelt backwards.
The words "Clockwork Giant Pandas" is written above the trigger on Alucard's 454 Casull.
