Episode Summary

EDIT
An ambassador from another kingdom visits the Royal Palace to present King Randor with a gift. But Man-At-Arms recognises the man as Skeletor in disguise, and in an attempt to stop him, is turned into a crystal statue. He-Man and Teela must journey to the Isles of Darksmoke, where the great and ancient dragon Granamyr knows the only spell to reverse the effect on Man-At-Arms.

But their task proves far from easy- for not only is Granamyr suspicious of humans and reluctant to help them, but he says he will only give them the spell if they cut down the living tree named Skytree. Will He-Man willingly take a life if it is the only way to save that of his friend?moreless

The Dragon's Gift was another great episode of He-Man and TMOTU. I liked the beginning and how Skeletor disguised himself. Man-at-Arms saved the King but at a cost. He-Man and Teela try to help. It was cool to see their adventure and for them to find Granamyr the Dragon. I liked how Granamyr challenged them and it lead to another ancient being, Skytree. I loved the story and how it all played out. The action was fun and the nature of theancient beings was right on. I look forward to watching what happens next!!!!!!!!!

  • He-Man and the Dragon

This was one of my favorate episode when I was a kid because it was the first time I ever saw a dragon. Granamyr is a good character because he is both wise and at the same time a bit intimitating and unpredictable, in a strange way this dragon was probably the first dragon that was actually on the side of the angels.

And the episode of course is once again a morality tale which asks the question how far would we go to save a friend's life? Could we sacrifce one life to save another? And of course there is a supprise ending.moreless

  • TRIVIA (1)

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Teela: Today He-Man had to decide whether or not to chop down a tree. Now the trees around you probably don't speak the way Skytree did. Or if they do we haven't learned to hear them, yet. But trees are living things, and when you respect a tree, you show that you care about all life. Life is a wonderful precious gift, learn to enjoy and respect it, and you'll be a happier, better person for it. Bye for now.

    • Granamyr: Wisdom, compassion, and the honoring of a bargain. Who would've thought human-kind would improve so much in a thousand years. I accept this gift, He-Man.

    • King Randor: Where is Adam?
Man-At-Arms: He's busy with, er, government problems.
Teela: I wouldn't call Lady Amanda 'government problems'!
      Man-At-Arms: Hush, child.

  • NOTES (4)

    • Larry DiTillio's original design for Granamyr was different from his final design in the series- initially, Granamyr did not wear the viking helmet, which was added by the animators for an unknown reason. DiTillio was unimpressed with this unnecessary addition to the character's appearance, as were the storyboard artists, who refused to draw Granamyr with the helmet on storyboards for his future appearances, even though he continued to appear with it in the episodes.

    • This episode was adapted by Mattel to a mini-comic, which was made available with several of the action figures.

    • This was the first He-Man script that Larry DiTillio wrote, and was the one that got him recruited by Filmation.

    • This was the first appearance of Granamyr in the series. Granamyr and the Ice Trolls originally appeared in Larry DiTillio's RPG game "The Isles of Darksmoke", he transported them into the He-Man series, in which Granamyr became one of the most popular and well-written characters in the whole series.
