Episode Summary

EDIT
Adam, Man-At-Arms and Orko are searching the forest for Salkweed needed for Man-At-Arms' experiments. But a storm strikes and Orko finds himself separated from his friends, and runs into a the clutches of a giant. He faints from shock, but awakens to find the giant has returned him to his friends- and not only that, but the giant has also delivered them a supply of Salkweed! The giant moves on before the heroes can ask him who he is and how he knew what they were looking for- but before long, both Orko and the giant are captured by the owner of a travelling Freak Show, who is making easy money by capturing human and animal oddities and displaying them as freaks. As He-Man sets out to rescue them, the giant begins plotting an escape plan, surprising Orko with his incredible intelligence, and friendliness in spite of his appearance.moreless

  • Awesome.

Although it was a common moral back when I was a kid, I never watched a cartoon that was as evocative in teaching that the inside counts. I remember that all those years ago I was really disappointed that Cambro never showed up again, but I'll treasure the appearance he did make.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • The four-armed Zolt from Orko's missing Magic is pink and red instead of purple and blue in this episode.

    • For an episode that attempts to discourage discrimination based upon appearance, this episode only serves to contradict that moral in several places. The human oddities on the sideshow- notably the four-armed Zolt and Siamese Twins Tic & Toc from "Orko's Missing Magic" are portrayed as helpless animals rather than human beings. This only serves to come across as prejudiced, even though the episode is supposed to be speaking out against that.

    • The new guest characters in this episode were also reused as different characters in later episodes. The Sideshow Owner was reused as Lord Todd in "The Gamesman" and Cambro was reused as The Tingler in "Monster on the Mountain", which basically ripped off the entire theme of this episode.

  • QUOTES (2)

    • Orko: Today I learned something about judging other people by the way they look. Just because Cambro looked different, I was frightened of him and I thought he was some kind of monster. But he turned out to be kind and gentle and smart. I hope you'll try to remember not to judge people by the way they look, and not to make fun of them if they look different. People deserve to be judged on their words and especially on their actions. From now on, I'm going to give them a chance. I hope you will too, bye!

    • He-Man: You've been away from humanity for a long time, Cambro. There are still many of us who judge a person by his appearance. But...we're learning not to. Perhaps from the example of your intelligence and courage, more will learn.

  • NOTES (1)

    • This episode features a surprise appearance by Stratos' race, the birdpeople of Avion, the second of three appearances they made in the series.
