Hercules: Parenthesis, you're worrying too much about this size thing. Parenthesis: Guys, I've been bitten by dogs, and believe me, the length of their teeth was directly proportional to the depth of my pain!
Parenthesis: (after hearing about Hercules' battle with the Hydra) You know, I should really write something about that. Something that captures the emotional dissonance that pervades these creatures' psyches. Something that explores the existential force that carries Hercules and you through these challenges. Iolaus: What is he talking about? Hercules: I have no idea.
Elopius: I didn't think you'd come for Melina if you knew the whole truth. Iolaus: Wait a minute, this is Hercules and Iolaus- Monsters R Us!
Parentheses: (referring to the sea serpent) You did beat it, though, didn't you? Hercules: Eventually. After it ate me.
Executive Producer Robert Tapert has said that he considers this to be one of the weakest episodes of the show's run, and that it let the series down.
This episode includes clips from the Hercules movies "Hercules and the Amazon Women", "Hercules and the Lost Kingdom", and "Hercules and the Circle of Fire". It also includes clips from season one episodes "The Wrong Path", "As Darkness Falls", "Pride Come Before a Brawl", and "Unchained Heart". And it includes clips from the second season episodes "The King of Thieves", "The Other Side", "The Mother of All Monsters", "What's in a Name?", "Siege at Naxos", "Cast a Giant Shadow", and "Protean Challenge".
This episode is a "clip show", meaning that it reuses footage from previously aired episodes and uses a new narrative to connect them, creating a new story. This practice is used on many tv shows as a money/time saving device. It's also what is referred to as a "bottle show", which means they filmed it in about half the number of days as a regular episode.
Disclaimer: No vicious tabby cats were harmed during the production of this motion picture. However, the Pre-Hellenic litter box is in dire need of a change.
Iolaus: (when Hercules knocks his using string to leave a trail) Wait a second, Hercules, this is a great idea! I mean, this is going to save our lives. Remember Theseus? The hero Theseus took a ball of string with him into the labyrinth to help him find his way back out after he killed the Minotaur.
