Episode Summary

Hercules' friend Salmoneus hardly realized the trouble he was getting into when he made himself rich by selling off a magnificent treasure trove. The treasure was a gift from the goddess Hera to King Ores, and she was not pleased by Salmoneus' actions. Hercules rushed to defend Salmoneus against the lovely Nemesis, the goddess of divine retribution. Once she understood that the evil Zander was responsible, Nemesis freed Salmoneus from Zander's clutches. Hera sent the fiery monster Pyro after Hercules, but its flames killed Zander. Hercules killed the creature in the end.moreless

This was a fun little Salmoneus themed outing. In it, Sal has stumbled upon a get-rich-quick scheme that seems to be working out for him. He's basically an antiques dealer, but what he doesn't know is the antiques are Hera's. Of course it's Hercules to the rescue here. This episode has some really great moments, including the return of Nemesis. I loved when the childlikeness of Hercules returned upon seeing her again and how they chased each other through the village. This Nemesis was far more enjoyable than the last actress to play her and worked well with Sorbo and Trebor.

Trebor is always wonderful as Salmoneus and I love how well meaning he was here. Despite being the little money grubber he is, once he had money his greatest desire was to share it with his greatest friend (Hercules). I think it was cool they decided to Personify Hera's fireball into a being Hercules could defeat, Pyro. It sort of gives you the sense he finally got to avenge the unfair murder of his family. I also like that the human villian that set Sal up, pretty much symbolically "fell on his own sword" when he released Pyro. Not to mention, the effects used for Pyro were really really cool. Excellent entertaining romp of an episode.moreless

The series is going through a good patch last couple of episodes, with the enjoyable 'The Mother Of All Monsters' and 'The Other Side', and this story continues with the trend.

Once again, Salmoneus' greed gets the better of him, and he finds himself incurring the wrath of Hera.
Hera was the regular antagonist of the television movies and early, first season episodes, but it's been a while since she has been used as the antagonist in the series.

Nemesis returns, after being seen in the first season's 'Pride Before A Brawl', but is here played by a different actress, Karen Hill. Apparently, 'the powers that be' felt that the actress playing Nemesis in 'Pride Before A Brawl' wasn't quite right and the part was recast. Hill is the second of three actresses to portray Nemesis in the series, and in my opinion the best, and has a good rapport with Kevin Sorbo.

The climax, with Hercules battling the flame engulfed Pyro, is well executed, with some good CGI effects, and one of the action highlights of the second season.moreless

    • According to Kevin Sorbo, even more impressive footage was filmed in the battle with Pyro, but wasn't used in the final edit, presumably due to time constraints regarding the CGI.
