Show Summary

Heroes and Villains is a docudrama series that originally aired on BBC in 1995. It is produced by Tiger Aspect Productions, and consists of three separate episodes. Each episode focuses on a separate person in English history. The first episode is entitled "Queen of the East" and originally aired on January 26, 1995. It stars Jennifer Saunders as Lady Hester Stanhope and Freddy Douglas plays Michael Bruce. The second episode is "Full Throttle," which aired on February 2, 1995. This episode stars Geoffrey Palmer as Henry Birken, a professional race car driver in the 1920s. Rowan Atkinson also has a small role, and is best known for his comedic roles as Blackadder and Mr. Bean. The third episode is "The Last Englishman," which aired on February 9, 1995. Jim Broadbent plays the lead role of Lieutenant Colonel Alfred Daniel Wintle, a British officer who served in both world wars. Wintle was an eccentric who is remembered for his extreme patriotism in combat.
