Qu locura!moreless

The second chapter unfolds quite nicely as the story of the first volume continues. Peter ends up in the hospital after he jumped from a tall building and saved by his brother Nathan who flew and caught him. Nathan denies the truth and hides his ability to fly while the mystery of the identity of Peter's power continues. Furthermore, we find out that Peter's father committed suicide.
Nikki wakes up to find two dead bodies beside her with no recollection of their deaths. The only evidence is the video camera. More strange things happen as while she is driving she ends up in a desserted place and she doesn't remember how she got there in the first place. While following notes and hints from an unknown source she ends up unearthing secrets she never wanted to.
We meet up with Matt Parkman, a policeman who discovers he can hear people's thoughts when he finds a little girl hiding from the rest of the police force. The head of the police investigation (which involves a serial killer named Sylar) interrogates Matt as to how he knew where to look for the little girl and she doesn't get the answer she was looking for. After this incident Matt becomes an FBI agent.
Hiro realises that he has travelled in time as well after he witnesses both a murder and a bomb exploding five weeks later than he thought.
Isaac Mendez still recovering from the rehap refuses to quit drugs believing it's the only way to keep painting the future and stop a bomb from exploding.
Zack, Claire's friend, loses the tape with all of Claire's attempts on and it ends up in the most unexpected hands.
Mohinder continues to discover pieces of the puzzle that was his father's research, while we are introduced to Sylar (both through Mohinder's as well as Matt's story) the serial killer.
Overall this is a great continuance to a great pilot which will definitely keep you glued to the TV and asking for more.
Important fact: Notice the little girl Matt is saving she has a significance to the main plot as well as Nathan's refusal to accept his destiny.moreless

  • Now that the characters are established, some details are filled in.

We know who's who now so it's time to find out what's going on.

Big revelation: Claire's father Noah is the same guy who was in Mohinder's father's apartment stealing files. Who is he really and who is he working for? Claire runs into a burning train car to see if she can withstand fire and rescues a trapped man but 'friend' Jackie takes the credit. Bet Claire felt like an idiot, she could have taken the credit with no danger to herself.

Noah has the tape of Claire's attempts and shows no surprise so obviously knew about Claire's powers. He claimed to be trying to find her birth parents, brilliant plan: can stall her indefinitely while appearing to do what she asked. Her mother is a complete lunatic!

New character Matt is a telepath and impressively rescues a little girl Molly after the serial killer dubbed 'Sylar' kills her family. Given how effortlessly he found her and somehow knew the killer's name, he naturally is prime suspect and is immediately arrested.

Niki's alter ego is protecting her but also wants Niki to know about it, and also is deliberately including Niki so that she also gets her hands dirty. This looks like a case of Multiple Personality Disorder as the alter seems to just take possession of Niki's body. The only thing that says it's not MPD is the way the men were killed ripped apart with what looks like super strength. This isn't a power like the others have, it's very strange and I'm not entirely sure it even qualifies as a power. Hope this gets elaborated on soon.

Turns out that Peter's dad killed himself. While fighting with Nathan, Peter started walking on thin air. I'm still confused what Peter's powers are? The only time he can fly is around Nathan, is it something to do with Nathan?

Hiro finds a comic book by Isaac which details his life, even quoting dialogue!

And the most important revelation of the episode: Hiro's trip into the future shows New York will be destroyed by an atomic explosion five weeks from now. I'm gonna take a leap of logic here and say our characters have to do something about that!

    Last thoughts:
    - Surprised to see Stacy Haiduk and with gorgeous red hair. Wonder if she's going to become a bigger character or is she just temporary?

Very interesting, lots more info about the characters.moreless

Ok, I loved the twist - in the end of the episode we will see what is going to happen and everything else has to be figured out..

So, mainly this episode continued to develop chars where they were left at the end of the pilot. I think the most exciting story so far is Mohinder's one. He seems to be most involved. But I cannot say the other stories are not catching. Claire and her father - he learning the truth about her. That's weird. How did he get the tape? And Peter and his brother.. that seems to be interesting development too.

Anyway, much happening, a lot of excitement.moreless

    ADD TRIVIA
    • While the detectives are arresting Hiro in Isaac's apartment, they hear the explosion before the shock wave hits, but the shock wave would travel faster than sound. Edit
    • When Niki is watching the video of her stripping for the Linderman guys, the voice over the part where she is lifting her shirt says "that's the way I like it". On the pilot episode when that scene was shot, the same voice says "look at that belly". Edit
    • At the end of the episode, when you see Hiro teleport back onto the train, you can see that he was just superimposed onto the same scene from the first episode if you notice what is unmistakably Hiro's arm protruding behind him. Edit
  • Notes

    ADD NOTES
    • Even though this is the first time we see Matt Parkman's character, he was actually in the unaired version of the series pilot which can be seen now on DVD. He was edited out for time and the situation was changed. Originally, instead of finding a little girl, he finds a terrorist. NBC was not sure if the series would air at 8:00 or 9:00. If it aired at 8, the network was concerned it would be too mature for the time period. Edit
    • The Symbol: When Matt Parkman leaves Molly's house at the murder scene, the helix symbol 'Godsend' can be seen in the swimming pool. The symbol is in top left corner of the 9th Wonders comic book when Hiro sees it on the news-stand. Peter draws the symbol in his stick drawing of someone flying and someone else on the ground. The symbol is on two paintings in Isaac's studio when Hiro goes to the future. The symbol is visible in the DNA data in Dr. Suresh's computer program when the data flashes by on the computer screen. The symbol is on a post-it note on Mohinder's map. Edit
    • This episode actually aired in the United States on the day that Hiro claimed it was when talking to the police. Edit

    • Matt: It's okay. It's okay. You're safe now. Look, I'm a cop. I'm one of the good guys, okay? Molly (thinking): He hurt my mom and dad. Please don't hurt me. Matt: I'm not gonna let anybody hurt you. Edit
    • Peter: Where am I? Nathan: You're in a hospital. Peter: What happened? Nathan: You don't remember? Peter: No. Nathan: You jumped, Pete. Peter: Jumped? Nathan: Off the roof of a 15-story building. You tried to kill yourself. You were a little wound up yesterday, but I thought you were just you being you. Peter: What are you talking about? I didn't try to kill myself. You were in the alley below. I jumped and you....you flew. Nathan: I what? Peter: You flew up and you caught me. Nathan: You jumped, Peter. Twenty-five feet to a fire escape. I climbed up and carried you down. That's what happened. The rest is just crazy talk. Understand? Edit
    • Mr. Bennet: Claire-bear! Claire: Hi, Dad. Mr. Bennet: How was school? Claire: Very school-like. How was work? Mr. Bennet: Very work-like. Edit
