Hetalia: World Series

Show Summary

Hetalia: World Series is a Japanese-style animated ("anime") series based on the Hetalia: Axis Powers manga and web comic created by Hidekazu Himaruya. The show made its North American debut in December 2010. The series is a satire on the political climate surrounding World War II. The story is allegorical, making reference to real historical events through the use of countries' tendencies and actions in the form of anthropomorphized characters. The protagonist of the series, Hetalia, is a combination of the Japanese word "hetare", which translates to "incompetent" and Italia. Many other countries are satired in much the same way. Covering the historical events from the first half of the 20th century, the plot is based around the historical, political, cultural and military actions of these countries, played out through characters. For example, an alliance between to countries might be represented through a romantic interaction between to characters. The series has run for four seasons.
