Raphael, which means "God has healed", is one of the seven chief angels. He is known as the Semitic God of Air and one of the four presences set over all the diseases and all the wounds of the children of men.
The Archangel Raphael is depicted in the Bible as an angel concerned with the suffering of man.
Mephistopheles is the archangel of corruption, depicted in the Bible.
Goof: When Mephistopheles is speaking to Nurse Perie back in 1920's Berlin, he refers to her as mon cher. This is incorrect as this is the masculine form of address, the correct way of addressing a woman is to use the feminine form, ma chère.
Ella: (To Leon) I've been around too long to care about the passing of another year. It may matter to you when you know you've only another 60 to come, but I'm stuck here forever.
Alex: Do tell us the path to enlightenment. Leon: Easy – more beer!
Malachi: I know I'm supposed to be fighting a war for the hearts of men and all that, but I just want to have a bit of fun first.
Ella: It was meant to help me stop thinking about Malachi, drive out the frustration. Thelma: We have vibrators these days for that kind of thing you silly girl!
Ella: When I'm with him I feel safe. That's why I have to stay away.
Malachi: The choice is do you want Maya to know why she died or not?
Ella: So what exactly is the plan for tonight? Leon: If I told you that I'd have to kill you and that might really upset the world order.
Leon: When it comes to sword fights, girls don't win.
Leon: Did you know it's actually a physical impossibility to light 462 candles at once. Happy birthday.
Malachi: I didn't think you'd be into mortal pleasures - birthdays, Christmas. Next you'll be handing out Easter eggs and praising the resurrection.
Malachi: Contemplating eternity on your own's gotta get you down. I find my life pretty frightening.
Thelma: That cheeky grin, male charm thing ain't gonna work on me. Malachi: I guess I'm not exactly your type. Thelma: I only have one type these days – completely bloody unavailable.
Malachi: Biologically speaking, I'm six-months-old and I've lost my mother, my father and any other family I might have aren't exactly the kind who'd have me round to tea.
