The wheel on the show Big Bob was watching had spaces marked OOPS!, Bye-Bye, No Cigar, New Car, See Ya, Winner, Whole Enchilada, Sucker, Loser, Spin Again, and S.O.L.
Grandpa: It's time for our meeting about the annual boardinghouse Halloween party.
Arnold: Hey, Grandpa. Can Gerald and I help out this year?
Grandpa: Oh, no, Arnold. Halloween is a serious business and it's not for kids. Now, now, now, Arnold. The purpose of Halloween is to scare the living daylights out of everyone until they scream bloody murder and beg for mercy.
Curly: I wanted to go as pirates. Harold: No, vikings. Phoebe: How about clowns? Helga: We're all going as aliens because the whole purpose of Halloween is to scare people and make them give you candy.
Grandpa: (explaining about the kids in alien costumes) The news is all over town. The city's in panic. Gerald: Uh oh. Arnold: The TV station must have picked up our radio show. Grandpa, what happened to Helga and the kids after you saw them? (the kids are being chased by an angry mob)
Helga: Arn-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ld!!!!! Arnold: (Halfway across town) Did you hear something just now?
Douglas Cain has a voice similar to Orson Welles, the man who performed the original broadcast of "War of the Worlds" in 1939. Maurice LaMarche uses the same Orson Welles voice for this character that he uses for the Brain of Pinky and the Brain.
Helga says "dickhead" in this episode, but it was edited.
This episode is yet another one where Helga screams Arnold's name in the air, then Arnold hears it and says to Gerald, "Did you hear something just now?" Then he says no.
Big Bob reveals that he had a close encounter with an alien spacecraft.
Arnold and his friends fake an alien invasion, the name of the place where the "U.F.O." (actually the water tower with Christmas lights) landed is Well's Ridge. This is a reference to Orson Welles, who did a fake radio broadcast in which aliens landed on Earth. Like the after effects of Welles' broadcast, there was mass hysteria.
Gerald: Aliens are coming to destroy the Earth! The broadcast was based on Orson Welles' radioplay "War of the Worlds," in which aliens landed on the Earth and threatened to destroy Earth. "War of the Worlds" was thought to be true and caused panic.
